just got my FS/BB boxing day flyers in the mail today.
FS has Samsung Digimax A400(4 megapixel, 2"Lcd screen and 2.8x optical zoom) for 179.99

BB has Sony Cyber-Shot (4.1 megapixel, 3x Digital Zoom) for 179.99

Does anyone know if these are good deals? I am leaning toward the Sony one because of its brand. also i think Sony has a charger that comes along with it so i don't have to worry about buying batteries.

the samsung is a far better deal. I've seen those Sony's with only digital zoom, they're terrible. Don't be brainwashed.

Optical ZOOM is not a must better to have it. Unless your digital zoom is higher. Cameras with NO Optical like the sony one $179 cheap!

Not a clue what you are trying to say.. But Optical zoom is the only zoom to consider. Digital zoom is done just as well on a computer.. anyone would be foolish to buy a camera without optical zoom.

And on topic, neither of the two listed are that great of a deal.. Samsung does not make quality cameras..

I've got a sony digi-cam with only digital zoom. I like the camera, but I'm considering upgrading so that I can have optical zoom.

Digital zoom is more or less worthless. You can only use the zoom when you lower the resolution. At max resolution you can't zoom at all. For me to use my 3x digital zoom I have to lower the resoltion to VGA, which makes the picture look like crap.

Basically digital zoom is the same affect that you would get if you took the full picture and just zoomed in with photoshop.

I am looking at the Canon Powershot G5 for 500....it seems very nice. Lots of control (probably too much for me) the only thing I don't like it's that it uses CF (all my stuff uses SD), kinda bulky and for this price I probably could get two digicam instead. Anyone has any other suggestion?

Seems like no or little store stock the Konica Minolta DiMAGE X series (so far I've seen Centre Hi-Fi with the X50 and PJC with the X30 or Xt/Xg forgot :D)

Looks like a good deal. Haven't been able to find reviews though. I did find a review for a similar model http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/CX7530_pg2.html and it looks very good.

Combine this with the 70$ 1GB SD card at FS and I think that's just sweet.

hm... the difference between CX 7530 (review) and CX 7525(FS) is that CX 7530 has a 1.8' LCD display and 32mb internal memory while CX 7525 comes with a 1.6' LCD and 16mb internal memory.

Thanks for the link, but I already had found it in my hunt for info hehe!

Yeah the differences are really small, 0.2" is not that much and the built in memory is not a criteria since SD cards are getting cheap, 1GB for 79$.

I just received an e-mail from Future Shop for their online boxing day sale and they advertise the Canon SD10 for 249$.
Its a superb camera http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/sd10.html
but it does not have an optical zoom, so I think I'll pass.
This one is only available online.

waht you guys think of the olympus one??

don't go with kodak's me and my friend have the same excetl modle, we both had the same problems... can't zoom, can't see throught eye peice, and it takes pictures like its like super zoomed up,

anyone know what model that fuki digital camera is?? and point me to a few review sites that review that camera???

and is it 10x zoom?? I'd played around with the cannon one withc has optical zoom 10x too..

well you have two people who are the same two cameras and they both have the same problem..

I'd used my camera more, and he used his a lot less then what I'd do.. but we both end up with the same problems... so I'd guess theres a problem there.

Id sent me camera in 3, 4, times each time making the digital camera even worst.. I dunno what their techs are.. probally idiots! or just train some monkeys to fix the cameras.. when my camera, came back.. its alot more worse then before.. when I'd send it in.. argh! kodak you stupid idiots!!!

I would definitely say that the cannon one is better. It is more stylish than the olympus one and plus it uses compact flash memory cards which are a lot cheaper than the xD cards that the Olympus one uses.

I just got my hands on the Olympus 740. Have been after something for ages but the sale wasn't as good as the Friends and Family at FS when they had the A85 for $350 + $30 GC + an epson printer for free($100 - $100 MIR).

Will check the camera out and then decide whether it needs to go back, I'm also surprised it doesn't have sound recording. Wasn't sure whether to get this one or the 725 they had at BB for $250. Any way at last I have gone digital. Next thing I need to get is a DVD player!

Yeah, it is a good deal but the panasonic one can only capture movies at 320 x 240 compared to 640 x 480 for the kodak one.

I noticed that no one mentioned the Canon S60 camera. I think this is an awesome camera. A long while back I had their S30 (3.0 megapix) and i was very impressed, now it has a wide angle lens, 5.0 megapix for $499 at FS.
