Couple of places I went to this year to go christmas shopping didn't have any PS2s. I went to one or two Toy's R US and EBs and PS2s were all sold out...
So I don't know if there will be any deals on the console.

Sony is pulling their usual BS by imposing artificial shortages on their products. The PS2 is in short supply mainly because Sony wants it to appear like it's a must buy because it's so hard to get, so they haven't restocked the retailers. It's a really stupid ploy. They want to incite a feeding frenzy on their product around Christmas because they are rare.

"It's just a little old, it's still good, it's still good." :cheesygri
But then I prefer my PC over PS2 anyday. ;)

That's fine.. Instead of wasting my time and looking for a PS2 as a gift, I got a gamecube instead. I think Sony's little stupid plan back fired on that occasion.

You realize that videogamers are mostly 25 and up right? The idea that only kids play games is a myth...
I think is a great time to get a ps2 now. You can get greatest hits games, and the console is cheap. RTS and FPS are still meant to play on a PC though. ;)

Bought a PS2 slim @ EB Games - Hillcrest Mall for $179.99. Came with choice of NHL 2004 or some other game.
Things to watch out for aka f'n Sony scams:
- budget $30 for 8MB memory card as it is not included and it seems every game requires one (to save your preferences etc)
- budget $30 for an extra controller (if you wanna go head-to-head with someone at home)
- apparently if you mod this version (V12 or SCPH-700xx) it causes a problem with the laser?

Bleh, I'm fine with my Xbox anyway.... with the BIOS mod and hard drive upgrade, it's a DVD player, AVI/MP3/picture jukebox, and multiple-titles-on-
hard-drive system 'entertainment centre' all in one; if it recorded TV too (which some people are trying to make happen), I'd get rid of my DVD recorder :)
joeb: I fully agree with you on the RTS side, but since playing FPSes on the Xbox, I've actually been surprised at how well they handle on the system.

Future shop had the PS2 on sale boxing day two years back. $199 and you got the console, 2 games, and a memory card I believe.

yah.... now that the new slim PSTwo is out.... u'll have to wait at least couple months b4 they add "bundle packages" for sale that include accessories and or games... its just like when the old PS2 came out.... there was NO "bundle" when it first came out so if u wanted it u had the buy the console and games separately.... i think this is the case for all consoles nowadays.... the company wants to make more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$......

Bought a PS2 about 2 years back and did just that.. shelled out enough cash for the console, extra controllers, memory card, and 2 games...
I must have spent over 500 dollars at the time.
I just bought myself a gamecube a few months back. 130 bucks, and it came with two games - metroid & zelda. (BB Deal back in October). Got my hands on a wireless controller and a cheapo no name memory card and was set. I've spent about 250 on my Gamecube by now... (purchased more games as well)... and I'm completely satisfied with it..
One thing I love is how quickly the games load compared to PS2... I really can't stand waiting for anything anymore.
For those of you thinking of getting a ps2... they are a lot of fun... but not worth all the hype.. Xbox live is amazing if your into multiplayer games. It get a gamecube if you want to do a little bit of gaming when you get home from work.
Just my two cents.
