Just wondering, is their any way to hook up an iPOD to the car stereo? I want to buy this for my brother so he can listen to his ipod when he's driving like on the car speakers. How do i do it? His car doesn't have a tape deck.

iTrip or TuneCast = FM Transmitter
so you can broadcast iPod music thru them onto the car FM Stereo
About $40 CAD

Look for some reviews on the FM transmitter you are considering... some of them are not very good.

especially if you live in a big city where all the spectrums are taken up

If the car deck allows for aux inputs (eg. external CD players), then use that instead of FM transmitter as FM modulation takes the high out of high fidelity.

that would be the best idea, if the stereo has that capability, because with the transmitter you lose a lot of quality, equivalent to clear radio reception

My 1993 VW has the aux input on the front. Was great for the time I bought it because I didnt have to install a cd player, just hooked up my discman and put one of those floater arms from the floor. But that was back when tapes were still listened too :cheesygri
Now I can use it for a MP3 player. I bet VW never saw that one coming

RoadTrip or:
iTrip (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip/)
iTrip additional stations (http://www.griffintechnology.com/software/software_itrip.html)
Although less powerful stations (like 87.9) are completely taken over by iTrip, so you may not need to download 87.7 etc.

Depends on how much of a quality playback he's looking for. iTrips, are IMHO a neat idea, integrates well with the iPod, but sounds like *****. Do a google on the net with Ipod and his car model. I'm sure you'll find something. I had the iTrip but it was a PITA in configuring new stations all the time when I drove around the city and if there were overhead wires around, it would break up and sound garbled. If he doesn't have an AUX in his HU, take a look at the Soundgate connections. Denison's ICE links are nice as well but a little pricy. Lot of options just have to look. I'd start with google...

for those who don't have an aux input and don't want to use a transmitter, you can always just buy a tape deck adapter for around 10 bucks and use that.

Jolly, maybe you missed the part where he said "I don't have a tape deck" !

weedb0y that's not a very smart idea. Why would he want to spend $200 on a deck, plus hack up his car installing it, plus waste his time burning a bunch of CDs when he's already got his music stored & arranged on a perfectly good ipod?
It's not about being "geeky" it's about being practical.

Surf to the ipodlounge forums, then to gear, then to in-car installs.
Lots of juicy info there.

all this itrip and fm transmitter discussion is cute and all, but the icelink (url provided earlier) is the ultimate ipod in car solution (right now). i have the icelink 1.1 and i'll give a quick rundown..
your ipod connects to the icelink which connects to the cd changer connection on your deck.. (the install was not that hard). the ipod essentially appears as a cd changer to your stereo; you can use +/- buttons to skip tracks, steering wheel controls work. as well, you can toggle random & repeat all through the deck.. if you hit FM/AM, the ipod pauses and goes into sleep mode (charging), when you go back to CD, the ipod starts playing again.. the whole time it is connected the battery is charging..
