Darn... What happened to the $499 Pioneer receiver that was in the earlier BB boxing day post? Looks like they replaced it with a $699 Yammy RSV1400 instead.
**edit**
Weird looks like the $499 Pioneer now appears in the Futureshop flyer. Hope its the 1014tx. :cheesygri

Hellfire,
Thank you for the pictures!
It appears you cut off the fine print on the first page "Sale starts online, Dec. 25* BestBuy.ca"... what is the fine print associated with that * (which I'm assuming is a confirmation of the exact starting time.)
************* Never mind.... I looked-up a few messages, and notice somebody posted 12am EST Dec 25th (thus 10pm MST Dec. 24th in Alberta.)
Once again, thanks dude.

Hmm.. So the sales start at 12:00 am EST on Christmas Day?? So it starts a day earlier online then in Store? (i.e. not midnight on Boxing Day but midnight on Christmas Eve?) I get confused some times by the times... is 12:00 am the same day as it is on 12:01 am? Or is 11:59am on the same day as 12:00 am
Maybe I won't go to midnight mass this year ;)

I believe that 12:00am is generally considered the start of the day (rather than the end of one) and so in this case, 12:00am will be the same as 12:01am on XMas Day.

It's actually cheaper for you to buy the Lexar JumpGear MP3 player with 128MB JumpDrive Sport flash drive and the 1GB JumpDrive Sport flash drive seperately. Most of RFDers got their JumpGear with 128MB for $55 with the Staples PM last month. The 1GB flash drive is being sold at BB for $80 after MIR.
thanks for the pics! The Fuji discs and $80 lexar 1 Gig usb key look good.
Yup, the Lexar 1GB JumpDrive Sport flash drive is pretty good, since they've been going for ~$75-$95CAD (plus shipping) on <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=81 target=_blank>eBay.com</a>, so $80 is a pretty good deal in my opinion. I'm getting it.

In my opinion, dont buy this mP3 player. I have 3 pieces, bought at stooples PM, $40 few weeks ago ) Although the sound is awesome, and considering the 1GB flash drives also reasonable at <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>eBay</a> (the local stores r a rip off for lexar USB sport flash), but the biggest problem is carrying the gear around. The USB drive eventually becomes loosen, and doesnt fit well in the mp3 gear...one cannot keep it in trouser pockets without realising that it may be damaged eventually. I have checked out <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=77 target=_blank>eBay.ca</a>, and there are good number of canadian dealer who sell 1GB mp3 player, with builtin 1GB memory for $110 or so......Much better I believe

Hmmm...seems alot of people having problems with this midnight thing. So I'll try to explain:
midnight = 12am = new day or
midnight Dec 25th is the start of the 25th or
1 minute after 11:59pm Dec 24th is midnight Dec 25th
So if you're not in bed waiting for Santa on Christmas Eve, then you're getting ready for FS Boxing Day shopping. I hope that's a little clearer.
There are limits online, but I'm not sure if they're the same as the flyer.
I'd say the Star would be your best bet.

I myself am looking for a widescreen TV. Did a search on Sammy 42" CRT RPTV, couldn't find any good reviews. Sounds like it's an old model, I won't spend my money on that.
On the other hand, Sammy 42" DLP sounds like a good deal. Found good reviews about this one. Though some of the reviewers are complaining about noisy wheel in 4-6 months. BTW, lamp life on this DLP is about 10,000 hr. If I buy this one, I might also go for extended warrenty. Does anyone know if extended warrenty covers the replacement bulb?

Usually thay don't cover the bulb (costs 200-300). If you can get them to say its covered, GET IT IN WRITING. Trust me on that. Most places won't cover bulb replacementunless it dies prematurely.

Semantics.
The sale will begin at one minute past 11:59 PM EST on December 24th (or 00:00 December 25th). Now there is no confusion as to when the sale starts.

I thought it was 9AM PST last year too...
I remember how that FS Boxing Day thread got bloated to almost a hundred pages while people were waiting for the sale to come on.
It just displayed some weird message about the site have technical upgrades or something.
And then there is the conspiracy theory about how the server administrators were playing around with the power and reset buttons on the servers.

Heheh, I remember it well, Mr Ken. The contest to see who could hit F5 the fastest was fun in a sleep deprived sort of way. :cheesygri
Fun times. Better than going to the store. WAYYY better than spending time with family and friends on Christmas Day.

I want to thank Rehan and JayPatel for the heads up  . I was simply going to wait for 9 PST but once JayPatel posted the price updates I kept refreshing until stock popped up. I prioritized the items I had to have and checked out after I got each into my cart. Boy, was check out slow even with already being signed up with everything setup a few hours ago. My first transaction confirmation showed 20:55 PST. When I got the fuji DVD into the cart there were 44 left, after multiple checkout critical errors I finally got through. (Makes me think of the Simpsons Halloween special where Homer gets cut off from TV in the mansion and goes nuts...) I double checked the rebates just in case and they were all fine for the 24th.
Personally if I had waited till 12 EST I would be mighty upset at how so many things would have been sold out or gone before checkout.
Once again thanks to RFD. Now to find some hidden online gems that weren't advertised...

WTF? If they can't cover it for at least a year, that tells me that there isn't much confidence in the longevity of this item.
BTW, does anyone know if BB plans to replenish stock online at random intervals like FS will? I missed out on Far Cry and City of Heroes at $10 each and I'm hoping I'll get a second chance. I having awful luck tonight and that's compounded by the fact that there's just not much out there on these Boxing Day sales.

I have two of these that I got from Costco for $49.99 last week. They are a bit heavy due to the 4 AA batteries but everyone in my family prefers to use the wireless vs the one that came with the PS2slim.
NOTE: If you need another one, Best Buy has it for the same price.

digital is a zoomed interpolation of the image whereas the optical provides actual imagery.
think of digital zoom like how you zoom in an image in photoshop or paint. Everything starts to distort the more you zoom in, not the case with optical. at least in my experiences

What's the difference?
Digital Zoom:
You take a picture, then the camera crops (chops off the side of the image), takes the remaining pixels, and makes bigger. So things become more blocky because you are seeing fewer pixels.
Go into your Photoshop, Paint Shop or MS Paint and select 800% zoom, everything becomes more blocky. That is the same as what a Digital Zoom camera is doing.
Optical zoom:
You are magnifying the image first using the lens, and then the camera takes a snapshot. You are not losing pixels. So everything remains sharp even though you magnified the image.
Digital Zoom sucks.

Those are the -R's. We were discussing the media code for the +R discs.
That being said, if one prefers the -R flavour, this is good information to know. Now, if one or the other would only come back in stock online, then I'd be happier! :(

I tried ordering the cheapo $9.99 DVD player - at 11:55 EST it came up as 10 in stock. I got one into my cart and proceeded to check out. I got the VB script error several times and then when the screen finally refreshed I got a message that they were temporarily unavailable and that they would ship when available (fine by me)...however, the quantity in my shopping basket was changed to ZERO. No matter how many times I tried to change the quantity to one, the server kept changing it back to zero when I attempted to check out (still had the message that it would ship when available), and then the page came up with the dreaded "out of stock" message.
I called their customer service and listened to 30 minutes of elevator music and the service rep who finally came on line told me the server had crashed at 12:01 EST and that anyone who was in the process of checking out, had their order CANCELLED by the server.
She told me there was nothing she could do for me, and she suggested that I should contact Customer Service on Monday.
Needless to say, I am not optimistic...but I will try talking to a supervisor on Monday!

For $260, it's a steal in my opinion. Almost $150 cheaper than an iPod and you get 10 more gigabytes. I've been looking for a HDD MP3 player, but an iPod is out of my price range and the Zen Xtra is just perfect.

It's a good deal for a low-end surround sound system. 210 Total watts is alright, and it does do dolby digital surround as well as pro logic 2.

All the ppl that bought it at 1599 are going to return it if they dont get it price protected to the $999 that is in the flyer. Is that fair? is that allowed? If i was sure Bestbuy would allow that, id buy it before the 27th. I dont think BestBuy will do it as they aren't stupid and everyone would buy it before and get the difference back. i think it's in-store only.

There's a lot of good things about RPTV. It's tried and true technology, pretty affordable $/inch, can be repaired down the road.
I think the run on sales here might be more a factor of price point than value. Joe Shopper has been out looking at sets all day, getting overloaded with options and depressed that he can't afford the $3000-5000 new technology. Boxing Day's over, all the stores are closed, and low and behold here's a set for well under $2k. Should I get it or not? There's only 15 left. Wait a minute, there's only 13 left. This must be a good set, everyone's buying it. What if it runs out?!? Shoot, I'm going to buy it!
Or it might be people who like you say are trying to get a price adjustment later.

A cheap Benq projector has a bulb that burns out in probably a couple of years if you use it as your regular tv. Then you need to shell out $400-$500 for a bulb. So you pay $800-$1000 for a disposable tv. A rear projection tv will easily last 5-10 years since it is built with CRTs. Do your research before making stupid comments!

Does this TV burn in when playing games?
Most consoles advise against any sort of projection.
Also, because it's projection would the screen be blurry in comparison to a regular TV? I seen some nasty LCD's & Projections at BB once(plasma and the rest didn't have this effect), they could barely handle a basketball game going on. Would I be better off if I chose a 30"+ Panasonic/JVC for gaming/clarity?

yes, it is prone to burn in.
Also for those still looking, Costco has the Akai version of this TV for 999.99. It is the exact same tv as the samsung one as it is just a rebadge. I just check it out running an HDTV signal and the PQ is very good for the price.

I'm not sure if this is entirely correct, but i heard plasmas were ev en worse than projections for burn-ins and stuff like that.
From what i have heard the new DLP Projection tvs can not get "burn-ins"

There were two when I just checked. I grabbed one and checked out successfully. I then tried to get the second but it somehow got out of stock before I completed the checkout. Sorry if the one that I did get somehow took it away from you. I promise it was nothing personal.
I'm really hoping that the stock that's shipping from BB's warehouse is identical to the TY media in their B&M stores.

I've been reading a lot of posts and last night I was waiting to get the Sammy TV for 999. When they started dropping in number, I thought it wouldn't hurt to get it and cancel it if they don't give it to me for that price. So i called Best Buy this morning, waited 40 minutes cause there was a snow storm in Atlantic Canada and so they were short staffed. Anyways I told them how it was advertised for DEC 27 and I gave them my order number. At first the lady said that it could've been a store only special and that it wasn't offered online. I told her that it was in the online flyer and that I was wondering if she could look into it. She put me on hold, came back and ask me what time I bought it at. I told her 12:45am. She put me on hold again. Then she came back and said that I was right and that they would credit me back the 600 dollars plus taxes. That made my boxing day! So it never hurts to try!

They posted it at 11 pm EST on Dec 26... so people who thought that it would be up at midnight, went away empty handed.

About burn-in, according to the Samsung US website, this model has some special feature that reduces drastically (or eliminates) the burn in effect..not sure how it works, but I hate console games with passion, so it's not gonna be a big deal for me.......I dont own a PS2 or Xbox or whatever....
