The employee discount is cost + 10% or regular price, whichever is less. The latter will be less for most doorcrashers. MIR always apply, whether to consumer or staff price.

The speeds are barely different.

Ultra II does ~ 4.2megs/sec on the D70, and 3.2megs/sec for the Lexar 40x.

If you really do need the 4megs/sec over the 3, you have the wrong camera.
Yup, I got that same Lexar 40X 1GB memory you mentioned from <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>eBay</a> for my dad recently. No need to buy in store and bother with price matches. I thought Lexar was a good brand already, and he said 40X is good enough for him (his Canon S50 5.1MP)

Question: Logitech z560 - stil a good deal at 100 bucks? Haven't been following speaker tech lately. Don't know if latest releases are that much superior so as to cool down this deal.


They aren't exactly musical but very powerful to attach to a computer.
The bass is very strong and probably you'll want to have the bass dial set to zero. They had some quality control issues with the amps and volume controls. One common symptom of Z-560 is that at low volumes you only get audio from one side. The workaround is to set the volume level quite low on your PC. That allows you to crank up the Z-560's a bit, enough at least so that both channels are playing.

Just came back from my shopping trip. What a zoo outthere. I have been out since 5:30AM this morning going to downtown future shop thinking I will be the first 10 in line. Wrong, there were at least 30 people ahead of me. Well, at least I still manage to get the Benq wireless keyboard and mouse combo and 1G SD card. Just came back from my shopping trip. What a zoo outthere. I have been out since 5:30AM this morning going to downtown future shop thinking I will be the first 10 in line. Wrong, there were at least 30 people ahead of me. Well, at least I still manage to get the Benq wireless keyboard and mouse combo and 1G SD card. The Benq combo is pretty easy to install, feels pretty solid and responsive. Just 1 que for those who bought it. How do you turn this baby off? Thanks.

If you care about gaming performance then go for the 9800 Pro. Both carry a similar feature set. However if money is an issue you cant go wrong with the 9600XT. Personally id take the 9800 Pro since the AIW feature set is not that all different between the cards.

if you are not sure what to buy why not wait?

Ultra II does ~ 4.2megs/sec on the D70, and 3.2megs/sec for the Lexar 40x.

If you really do need the 4megs/sec over the 3, you have the wrong camera.

So, does anyone here actually own this camera? What do you think of it?

My mate picked up this camera at the FS along with the 1gig SD. I picked up the FujiFilm F610 for $399. I was planning on the FujiFilm b.c it had gotten good reviews, but we didn't know anything about the Kodak.

Another mate pointed out that the Kodak does NOT have rechargeable batteries, AC adapater, or a cradle included, and thus you will probably want to pick these up separetely (were included on the Fuji).

Got home, did some research on the Kodak (Steve's BTW did NOT review this but a different model as far I could tell) and it was, as you say, hard to find anything.

WalMart in the US is selling the cam + cradle + tripod + bag for $278 US

Have you thought about the Roper set? I was researching it and the reviews at Epinions seem to suggest that the Roper is more reliable than the GE. Roper is made by Whirlpool.

And it is direct-drive instead of belt-drive. Heard that it was better, but don't know how. :cheesygri Is the GE worth the extra $100?

Well, I bought the Roper during the F&F sale for $560. :( I will try to get a price match after all the commotion has ended.

if you don't see a 'cancel entire order' button on the bottom right corner, you can't cancel your order.. your order is prolly shipped already.. fyi, you can't cancel your order once it's 'released'... you can always return your stuff to the b&m store once you received them.

I have been trying to get the $279 computer deal. I had one in my cart the first night but never could make it to the checkout. Second night, got home too late and the FS site was munged solid. Had other obligations this morning so could not line up early. Finally get to FS about 2:30 in the afternoon. First saleman I talked to said that they sold out in the first few minutes. You need a receiver. You can't plug them directly into a DVD player or a TV.

With home video, you will need at least 3 parts.

1) a dvd player (or possibly a cable box or satelite dish). All new DVD players and most sat & cable boxes will have an special output that feeds a 5.1 or 6.1 signal into the receiver. This signal divides the audio portion into the front, left, right, rear, rear center, and subwoofer speakers.

2) Receiver - Most new receivers have many inputs the so that you can directly attach DVD players, cable & sat boxes, etc. A 5.1 receiver will do center, front, left, rears and a subwoofer. The higher numbers add center rear and more side channels (is this correct?)

3) Speakers - each speaker will have a role to play a different part of the signal. The left and rights are usually called the mains and will be larger than the other speakers. The center channel must do all the voices and usually needs to be a bit larger than the rear speakers - but this is not always the case. In the mini systems - these 5 speakers are usually the same. The subwoofer fills in the low base that the other speakers cannot generate.

So the answer is yes - you need all 3 parts to get the home video system working --- of course you would need a TV of some type too.

If you are just listening to music, most of the other speakers will not be used, just the mains (with the exception of SACD or other surround sound music)

If you are one a budget - Shoppers Drug Mart has a combination package where the receiver and the DVD are combined into a single unit. The package also included 6 speakers. The package was priced at $99. You will definatly not get the sound or quality that these speakers will produce but it is a really cheap way to get home video system.

You do not need to match brand names for each of the components. You can use a Panasonic reciever and Sony speakers.

In regards to the comment about Prima, I bought one last November, the 27" Vritually Flat model, and have never had a problem. My remote doesn't work, due to a 2-year old that lived with us, but the TV works great.

The presence of those inputs/outputs on the receiver is merely to act as a glorified switchbox. They are absolutely not required unless you don't have enough inputs on your TV. You'd have to buy extra cable to do Source > Receiver > TV instead of Source > TV, and the former scenario introduces another unnecessary component into the signal path...something I'm never particularly fond of, no matter what the situation.

The subwoofer fills in the low base that the other speakers cannot generate.

So the answer is yes - you need all 3 parts to get the home video system working --- of course you would need a TV of some type too.

If you are just listening to music, most of the other speakers will not be used, just the mains (with the exception of SACD or other surround sound music)

If you are one a budget - Shoppers Drug Mart has a combination package where the receiver and the DVD are combined into a single unit. The package also included 6 speakers. The package was priced at $99. You will definatly not get the sound or quality that these speakers will produce but it is a really cheap way to get home video system.

You do not need to match brand names for each of the components. You can use a Panasonic reciever and Sony speakers.


1) In most situations, you'll use a digital connection from Source to Receiver. That can be either fibre optic or digital coax, but in either situation, the data is simply read off the disc and passed through the output. All processing and signal division into individual channels is done in the processing circuitry of the receiver.

2) Yes. 6.1 adds a surround back channel to 5.1. 7.1 adds side surrounds to 5.1. Diagrams are available I think on Dolby's website.

3) On the issue of speakers, the ideal arrangement is to have the exact same speaker for all channels. Since this is impractical, the rears usually end up being smaller since they are less significant, and the centre channel ends up being unique among the speakers because it requires a horizontal arrangement of drivers versus vertical for the other speakers for placement above/below the display. Your centre has to match your mains seamlessly.

In addition to all this stuff, you need cable as well to make it work. Budget 10 % of your system value/budget to cabling. Home Depot 12ga bulk speaker wire is a good place to start for inexpensive systems...maybe even 14-16ga if the system is really inexpensive.

I can't recommend this speaker set (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10055147&logon=&langid=EN&dept=0) enough. The .5 speakers are by far the best speaker set you'll find under $1000 by FAR, and the P300 sub is perfect for 90% of rooms (might be a bit small if you have a very large space).

I bought this set last year during boxing week at 2001 Audio Video and I paid $1k for 'em (including tax, 2 stands and a roll of 14 ga. speaker wire, though).

These speakers sound like much larger speakers! When you setup your amp, make sure you set the speaker size to "large" (if you have this setting) - this is what Athena recommends.

According to the Mfg. Part numbers, the Kingston drive is the "elite" version, it has up to 14 Mbs vs the Lexar at 6Mbs. Choose the Kingston if you can but at these prices, either one is fine.

The ASP-300 sub is a little weak, but sounds ok if tuned and hooked up right (direct hookup to Panasonic SAXR50 in my case). The .5s sound very clean, but no base. For $399 it's a very good deal

Like many said, AVR130 for $300 is smoking but basically other HK lines are not that cheap. For example, AVR235 is $750 at FS but only $688 @ Visions.

Also, for HK, *30 is last year's model (i.e. 130/230/330) and *35 is this year's model (i.e. 135/235/335). But what HK did was push models downward for the new year, i.e. last year's 230 is this year's 135, last year's 330 is this year's 235 and so on.

So avoid buying *30 unless the deal is smoking hot. Like AVR330 is still selling for around $800 @ some shops but a newer AVR235 is actually a slightly better unit than the old AVR330 for almost $100 less.

According to one guy I was talking to when WoW came out, the system will still show in stock even if the item is defective and is awaiting shipment back to the manufacturer. One of the WoW packages had a defective CD, but hasnt been sent back to the distributor.

I had a PS2 game and the Panasonic receiver on the same order. The PS2 game arrived and I signed for it but the Receiver wasnt there. The packing slip shows them both on it. It's been 24 hours since the PS2 game came and still no Receiver. Is there a chance the DRIVER jacked me and kept the receiver because i already signed for them both?

As soon as he comes to the door, he has the electronic signature thing and you sign it and he hands you the envelope (PS2 game) and he leaves. I did not see the packing slip until he was gone. Most likely the receiver will arrive in a different shipment but I dont know.....it should have came with the PS2 game! I emailed web support to let them know in case they think I did get the receiver and want another one!

I would say the chance the driver jacked your receiver is about 0 out of 0. As good a receiver as the Panasonic is, who would give up a well paid job to retire on the proceeds of your $300 amp? Besides if your shipment is on Purolator, I've found those guys are the best, at least around here.

What's actually happening is Future Shop is doing overnight air on small items like CD's, DVD's, videogames. Basically anything small and flat that can fit in a cardboard envelope. The boxes are going by ground. You'll get it.

I'd have to say it's not updated properly and it should show stock status unavailable while major sales are on; at least if they don't have the ability to keep it correct.

Agreed. One of the associates I was talking to a couple of days ago agreed that the stock database is not reliable.

I had the same thing on a digital cmaera order. The free digital camera kit (what a waste and they say it is worth $100) showed up the next day but not the camera. When I looked at my order on Futureshop.ca it only showed one tracking number which was for the digital camera kit. However if you open the printable invoice from there it showed both tracking numbers for camera and the kit. So I would just go open up the printable electroinic invoice and from there use the tracking numbers to see where your reciever is. Hope this helps.

I noticed many of those hot items have now been removed. Like those Altec Lansing 6 piece speakers, DVD burner, free encarta, and the DVD player went back up to normal price, etc.

Does any one have a a soft copy or a link to the MIR for the Encarta? I can't find the rebate form any more. I receied the CD today, but don't want to keep it if there is no rebate.

There were four mx900's at the Brampton Trinity Commons futureshop when I went there today at 12:00 p.m.. I picked up two. They are in a glass case near the front of the store where they have the video cards.
