ok... i just went to my local Wallymart and bought an gift for someone.... i look at the receipt and u see the usual: date/time/#items sold/tax/item purchased/total $/ etc....
then i look at the BACK of the receipt i see a "faded imprint" (if u know what i mean) of a "Sam's Club" logo .... and then i was like : "huh, what the hell?"....
so my question is: is Walmart = Sam's club???
i've seen posts... RFDers post in hot deals section talkin about memorex cd-r or dvd-rs and how it was cheap at SAM's club, and other RFDers reply was "for members only".... well 1st things 1st, Walmart NEVER had any kind of membership program.....
since when did SAM own Walmart.... or is it another case??? huh??
can n e one explain this 2 me.... greatly appreciated! thx in advance!

Sam's Club is named after Sam Walton the founder of Wal-mart. Sam's Club is and has always been owned by Wal-mart. It's their "wholesale" store that competes with Costco.

and just like costco you need a membership, which will end up costing you $$$$$

thx 4 ur info Ryan, but personally, i've NEVER seen a Sam's club logo on Walmart receipts b4.... that is of course til 2day.... neither have i seen it ANYWHERE in a walmart store....
so diff b/w Walmart & Costco is that WM doesn't need membership for customers to shop and CC does?.... well in that case, costco can go to hell as i'd rather NOT pay membership fees  although i have heard some good deals from there b4.....

Have you been living under a rock? New to the country?
I am not trying to be mean. I have read a few of your posts and it sounds like you are new to Canada.
Basically
There are two types of Wal-Marts
Wal-Mart - General Public
Sam's Club - Exclusive Wholesale. Requires a Membership Fee
Both are owned by the Walton Family.
Sam's Club was created to Compete with Cosco. Both have the same model. As explained by Ryan and Sunfire.

If there was no Costco, I'd pay the membership fee to Sams Club, just to steer clear of the oddballs that frequent Walmart.
As Dennis Miller said...Walmart is a genetic bouillabaisse.

Yes you will see lot of "=" in retailing for example:
Club Monaco (owned by Polo) = Cabin
Blue Navy = Gap = Banana Republic
Aldo Group = Aldo, Pegabo, Simard, Calderone, Globo, Transit, Feet First (btw its French)
others but I won't continue.
(also countless "=" for car manufacturers)

Blue Navy = Gap = Banana Republic
You won't find any BR product in either Gap or Old Navy.
Saturn = Hummer = Saab = GM.
Just cuz their owned by the same company, doesn't equate to quality.
Although Hummers are notorius for terrible build quality. And Saab's
have cheapened since the merger with GM.

Yes that's true but it may be manufactured in the same plant but with different material. But everyone knows that the material used in BR is not the same as BN you can tell by the price also ;-)
Btw, if you go into the back sections of BR, you can find some golf shirts that you swear you saw identical to Gap.
Btw again, if you look at a ES300 Lexus and campare that to a Camry...you will see some identical parts ;-), plus it is made on the same assembly line 8-)........lots of cars are the same but different built quality...ie G35 Coupe and the Z350, Vibe and Matrix (built at the same factory in California) etc.
You will see that Sam's Club sells items in different sizes compare to Walmart, same company, but different brand, size, etc.

if u didn't post and tell me, i would've *NEVER* knew that there were so MANY " ='s ".... lol.... maybe its b/c i don't shop at the GAP, ON, or BR much to be able to notice a diff b/w them!....
however, i disagree somewhat since for example, there are some items u CAN'T find at the GAP but u CAN find at BR...
so yah... can't all be " = 's " .... maybe " ~ " (i.e. similar to)
thx 4 the heads up....

its been their since sams came to canada last year. They share the same receipt tapes.. its called cross marketing. why do you think 7% of the world's money is spent at Wal-Mart Corp?

mahjongmaniac, just to clarify I think what others meant about Walmart = Sam's Club is that they are owned by the same company. I don't think they were trying to say that they are the same company. Only Walmart = Walmart (or any other company for that matter). I would also have to say that Walmart is not similar to Sam's Club (other than the fact they may sell some of the same items). Sam's Club is however similar to Costco in that they are both wholesale stores that require a paid membership. But this is all semantics.
