Nope.. I dunno why everyone's so excited over a product that we can't even buy yet..

Because it looks sexy. I doubt N's dominance is over. The backwards compatibility, touch screen, double the battery life and the Nintendo exclusives still carry a LOT of weight.
I was just reading on engadget how movies (so far) will only play in 320x240 mode when run off the expensive memory stick pro duos and how movies @30fps are ballooning to over 1GB per 90 minute movie :(
I don't want movies at QVGA. My PDA can easily do that

This is the MEMORY STICK PRO DUO, and not just any ol' memory stick. It's like half the length and so far maxes out at 1GB at $349US :-0

the one thing that would make this system really sweet was if they were to use a flip up screen instead. like the DS or SP

If you are talking about the retro GBA, the one below it is the Neo Geo Pocket. I think they are missing the Sega Nomad, but what is the one below the Indigo GBA?

Anyone know when Sony is putting out alternate colors?
They were showing off different ones at E3 and the TGS earlier this year. I want the yellow or white PSP :).

I'm so getting one when it gets released here. But... while researching for memorystick pro duo... this caught my eye...
-512 MB maximum storage capacity with 460 MB available
my eyes kinda poped out at that moment... 52megs gone?!? WTF!... then I clicked the little link beside the statement:
-Memory Stick® Media Storage Capacity
Available storage capacity of Memory Stick®, Memory Stick PRO™, Memory Stick Duo™ and Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media may vary. A portion of the memory is used for data management functions. Actual available memory in MBs is: 32=30, 64=61, 128=123, 256=220, 512=460, 1024=940
that's 94%, 95%, 96%, 85%, 90%, 92% respectively. For someone who's used to getting 242mb out of a 256mb sd card... that's quite a shocker. I mean, up to 128mb you get mid 90%, which is quite acceptable. But 220 out of a 256?!?, not to mention 460 out of a 512? That's loosing 52megs! And the other thing is, CC currently has the 512mb Pro Duo for $149. 512mb sd card costs $50-60. Someone needs to make an MS Pro Duo -> SD adapter very very soon.
Sigh...

I can guarantee you the DS will break last. This thing is built quite well (all Nintendo's handhelds have been built to be manhandled). It's dropped it twice to the concrete floor and it still keeps working :cheesygri
did not do it on purpose of course, my nephew and niece were fighting over it.
My nephew has put it thru the ringer and the touch screen and LCD are still doing well.
The PSP is quite easy to scratch according to a Japanese friend who owns one despite the supposed scratch resistant coating Sony put in place. However, there's no denying the sexiness of the PSP over the DS. The PSP is designed to be a pretty sophisticated piece of kit, the DS more for general purpose entertainment.

Actually no, that's his EXPERIENCE. Hey I'm getting one too in two weeks or so and I'm putting a scratch protector on it asap :). I'm just looking for an affordable memory stick pro duo around 512MB or so.

just my opinion but that was a ******** review..... i means standing outside of games shops to see how much attention it gets is pretty lame.. and i love its comparisons
"The Creative Zen Portable Media Center (PMC) is a portable media player with a 3.8-inch 4:3 screen and a 20GB hard drive, but beyond the hard drive (and perhaps 7 hour video battery life and TV output), it does not compare too favorably with the PSP."
all his comparisons are solely based on the screen..if all u want is a nice screen than the new vga pocket pc's are the way to go
ne ways, psp does look really cool though.... not sure if i'm gonna buy one though

that's always been my one major beef with Sony: their need for proprietary media. I see 512MB SD cards now in the US for $15 (!!!) plus you can use their full capacity as opposed to memory sticks and all this "data management" overhead crap. Ah well, as they say, you deal with the devil ...
