I've sent a PM request at Staples.ca regarding an item that is cheaper in their stores. They've replied and only matched the instore price. I haven't found anything in their policy stating that they only offer a 100% price guarantee in this case.

Is this worth pursuing any further, or were they right in just matching the B&M price?

Here's the relevant part of the PM policy:
Show us a lower advertised price on a new identical item from an authorized Internet dealer (list provided below) now or within 14 days of your purchase. We’ll match it PLUS give you 50% of the difference as a credit toward your purchase. (Maximum credit: $50).
...
We will gladly guarantee our price against the following selected Canadian Internet competitors: Future Shop, Best Buy, Grand & Toy, Office Depot, Corporate Express, Basics, Bureau Plus, London Drugs, Lyreco, and The Brick, Canadian Tire, Office Max, Denis.

It makes sense that they'd match the price with their B&M store, but there's no way they're going to give you the 150% guarantee.

100% is all you're gonna get.

I work at a B&M Staples. We will always match the website price at 100%. On a side note, I've often found prices on the website that are MORE expensive than in the actual store... go figure...

Basically the price match policy at staples works like this: If you find a lower advertised price for the exact same model at a competitor, we'll match it at 150%. If the competitor's price is only lower because of a mail-in-rebate, Staples will NOT match it (the policy as written in the store says that they do not match MIRs), though at my store we occasionally will AT 100% if the MIR is a small amount (say... $20 and under) and if the manager on duty is in a good mood (so be nice). It is, of course, a manager's decision, but be aware they are not required to match a competitor's Mail-In-Rebate so don't go in expecting it. There is a SET LIST at the stores, advertised at the cashes, of online retailers that we'll match.

Another caveat is that Staples does not match boxing day door-crasher specials. Every year we get several people who get all angry when we tell them this, but the reason is obvious enough - if you can't actually go buy it at the competitor's store because they only had 10 on hand, then we have nothing to match. Another reason is that it's IMPOSSIBLE to get through to places like FS and BB on boxing day to confirm availability and pricing. We were nice at my store ONCE when it came to this. A lady brought in a boxing day flyer from Future Shop with a computer she'd bought from us a week before. She wanted us to match their sale price. It wasn't a door crasher, so the manager basically told me to try calling them, give it shot and see if you can get through. I tried. And failed. She got extremely mad, but what can you do? I can't stay on hold for an hour, while we lose sales due to being one less sales associate short for a lady who foolishly decided to come in on the busiest day of the year for a $60 price match. We ended up telling her to come back the next day, when we did it for her no problem, from what i recall.
