Not sure if this should be in here - but looking for a solid Fossball table deal on Boxing day. $$ and sturdy-ness are the main issues. Don't want some flimsy cheap stuff. Any recommendations?

Costco has a nice Sportcraft foosball table for $299.99. It's definitely the nicest table I've seen around here in stores. My cousin picked it up and I can say it feels sturdy and doesn't feel cheap. The players are plastic but they are definitely heavier than other tables with cheap plastic players. The rods are solid steel as well unlike most of the cheaper tables which end up warping. The only thing I didn't like was that it had 3 players for goal. It took me a while to get used to that. You can probably take the two players off if you want. Nevertheless I would say this a pretty good price for this table.
If you wanna to see what it looks like, go to Sportcraft.com (http://www.sportcraft.com) and go to Table Games -> Foosball and look for Model # 35095.

I second that... I bought one about 3 years ago and love it. Feels really sturdy, but mine has the plastic players, where this one has some slick looking metal ones.

I only post when it's something I know about extensively and first-hand, and encourage you to get a Tornado foosball table. Why? These are the tables that are used in the professional tour (yes, there is one, and yes, I know b/c I actually am a member). There are 2 major tornado tournaments a year, in Vegas (March, the "Nationals") and Dalls (August, the "World's"). Total payout is over $135,000 USD, and at least 30 countries are represented. Even in Toronto, we have 2-3 tournaments a year with payouts around $2000.
In the off-chance that you become serious about foosball, and want to pit your skills against exceptional players, it's better to buy the right table now. There is a complete line of Tornado tables according to budget (from $500 to $2000 CAD), and each one is better than the costo/ct/walmart etc brands.. many players who buy these 'home' brands regret it later when they see what can be done on Tornado's.
check out www.gilchristvending.com - they have a showroom in Toronto with all sorts of stuff (pool tables, jukeboxes etc..and several kinds of foosball tables).
if you're interested in playing in leagues here in Toronto, or tournaments, check out www.torontofoos.ca (my site - plus link to ontario forums), as well as www.vifa.com, www.foosball.com, and www.canadafoos.com.

i dunno bout the popularity of foosball down in the east side of CAN, but down over hear in the west side... its pretty popular..... at our Univ. campus, theres ALWAYS somebody playin at foosball table everyday (except weekends).... its CRAZY at lunch times....
the ppl that own the place make SO MUCH $$$$$$ too.... its 50c / game with 8 or 9 balls.... considering theres prbly AT LEAST 100 games a day, thats $50 per table per day, but theres 3 tables available 4 play.... so that makes it a whoppin $150 profit/day.... they may cost alot to buy in the beginning, but it all comes back after only a few months!
lets c, $150/day * 5 days = $750 /week * 4 weeks = $3000/ mth
even for one table that costs $2000 ( the most expensive, high quality tables), about 3 months worth of gameplay will bring back profits already... and the Univ. i go to has been open for quite a while (>10 years?)... not to mention that the foos tables at my Univ *ARE NOT* the high quality tables, so i'm guessing they prbly only cost at MAX $1k....
yep... so ppl r crazy bout foosball here.... especially the engineers..

I surely hope that's a typo or a joke.
If you're buying a foosball table for that little you're either not talking about foosball, or talking about some fischer price table a foot tall.
Years ago we got our foosball table really cheap because it was a B grade. All that was wrong was the wood was chipped off, and badly varnished. Didn't really care, and it saved us a bundle. Though it's not like they advertise the defective one's. ;)

I agree... you;re not getting away with anything less than $500.. i bought a Fabi home table for $1000 after taxes..... i kno it was expensive, but watever..... i was addiced.....
btw.... the 3 goalie system is the new style.. cuz there are no sloped sides and the players can get in the corners... so less chance of dead balls... btw i play slowball on Fabi.. sick

Yeah there's no point in getting a cheap table. They'll be useless in no time. A friend of mine set up a cheap one last yr and in about 3 games we already had a couple of the rods warped.
Here's a really nice table with solid metal players. Made in Portugal. I'm sure these aren't cheap.

3 goalie system = new style..??
well, no wonder i've been seeing so many of the 3-goalie tables out in the market.... and the 1-goalie tables seem virtually extinct....
i personally love the 1-goalie system better.... the 3-goalie system is 4 no sloped sides... but thats exactly y the 1 -goalie tables DO have sloped slides to avoid dead balls.... plus, the extra 2 players is NOT representative of REAL soccer man.... since when did soccer consist of 13 players on the field per team... thats messed up.... 11 was just fine....
doesn't n e body think that it "feels" weird with an extra 2 ppl back at defense???
maybe its just me.... cuz ive been playing foos since junior high.....! thats like > 8 yrs!

i got started on a tornado table, so the 3 players in the back are normal for me. If you like if you like that style, i think the costco's table is the best bet. I got it 2 weeks ago, and at 80kg, it is the best, and most solid table I have played under $500. Sure, you can get the real thing, but the used tornados go for min $1000. The costco's table is nice and solid. It has counter-balanced men, so they actually stay the way you want. If you want the other style table (1 man goalie), I have no idea about them. However, the tornado style tables are more and more popular, with the tournaments using them and all.

I definitely prefer the 1-man goalie over having 3 guys at the back. I started playing foosball this way and it's just feels wierd the extra 2 men. I played on my cousin table and I ended up putting the ball in my own goal a few times because I simply forgot that these players were even there. They just seem useless other than for the purpose of getting the ball out of the corners. I prefer to have 1 man and sloped corners.
I agree with the one guy, that it should be an 11-man team and not 13.
If you're just looking for a table to learn on or just to play with your buddies for fun then I would recommend the Sportcraft from Costco. If ya got the cash, then go nuts and get a high-end table.

Yes, it's important to distinguish what kind of foosball you prefer. In Toronto and Italy, fastball is more common (drink your double-expresso and go nuts on the table :D ). Most other places (ie Western Canada, Ottawa, USA, most of Europe, Asia, etc) passing is more common (which is more like real soccer if you think about it).
Fyi, Tornado tables were designed and manufactured with passing in mind (as were Bonzini, Eurogarlando, Eurosport and a bunch of others).
Fabi, Garlando, and Roberto Sport(except new models) were designed SPECIFICALLY for fastball play. If you're playing slowball on one of these, you really should take your skills to a Tornado where you'll really shine.
Also if you're playing fastball on a passing table, you should also think twice.
From a tournament perspective, Tornado and Garlando have the most tournaments and following. Fabi in most of the world doesn't have the recognition. The ITSF (international association) doesn't even recognize it as one of their FIVE tournament tables. Roberto Sport is their fastball table.
Fabi is a top 8 table however, and a great table for bar-owners (b/c it doesn't need much maintenance and is pretty sturdy, and relatively cheap.. Fabi balls cost .50, while Tornado balls are $5). However there's no serious competition in Fabi, no real organized tournaments (outside Toronto), and thus no chance to take your game to a higher level.
Good Fabi players however learn the Tornado and other games very quickly... about half of our top Tornado players were Fabi players until a few years ago.
Too much info??? I know, to an outsider it's a bit freaky... but hey, there was a rock/paper/scissor tournament in Toronto a few months ago!!!

Gonna go test it out this week so I'll keep you guys posted. Seems like a sweet table though, first I've seen with brushed aluminum.
Model is called the Rock-it, and can be seen here: http://www.tablesoccer.com/ts_html/feature.html
Another thing I've noticed is that the rods don't extend out the other side of the table, so it uses some double bar system.
Can't wait to test this baby out! (They have a local retailer here in Vancouver)

Hard to say without seeing it in person.
But personally that table doesn't look too good. It looks too weak and flimsy. Just doens't look like it's constructed well.
I'd consider foosball like a pool table, don't cheap out or you'll notice the difference.

I checked out the costco table. thats seems to be the best for the value right now. It does have 3 goalie (maybe 2 can be taken off? since me and my friends are 1 goalie fan).
Another thing on it is the helper slides on th sides so ball will not get stuck. I have to check if these can be taken off because really don't like those. Other than that its is very rock solid.
wow I had no idea about leagues and tournaments. Thanx guys. I am planning to buy it on boxing day.

well yah... but what i REALLY meant was that foosball is representative of an actual soccer game, which IMO, should have the same # players as they would in reality!
and btw, these foosball table r made for 2-on-2 games , NOT 1-on-1 .... but sometimes 1-on-1 is fun though..... it tests ur reaction/anticipation skills... and how fast u r....
also, this foosball table is supposed to be *representative* of the real world soccer game... well it doesn't take a 3 yr old to figure that a foosball table is NOT the same as the soccer u c ppl play in reality.... (duh!)....

Pretty good if you're not 'serious' about it.
We raised the height of the table by 8" to make it more 'standard' height, and now it plays like a real table... except it's very light and you can pick it up with one hand. Just gotta find a way to nail it down to the ground and it'll be super :).
But if you're even remotely serious about foosball, then it's probably not your thing.
