So they send me an e-mail that says I am a "preferred customer" and I can now just click on a title that tells them I have sent a movie back and they will ship my next one/ones out within 24 hours. Sounds great right? I should be able to get quite a few more movies per month this way. The only thing is now their website isn't working. I can get to the homepage after about 3 minutes but I can't click on my movie to claim I sent it back or check out my ziplist or anything. What a joke! Anyone else having the same problem with Zip?

the site is working now:

Thank you for contacting the Zip.ca Member Service Centre. We are pleased to assist you with your inquiry.

ZipRefill is an exciting new feature that allows members to tell Zip.ca when they have returned a DVD to us and we will send a new selection to them within 24 hours. This new service upgrade, the 5th major one since our launch, will allow members to rent twice as many DVDs today as six months ago; more than from any other online DVD service.

Members who are eligible for ZipRefill meet the following criteria:

Be an active member for 60 days or more.
Have rented and returned 5 or more DVDs.
Have no DVDs reported missing.

ZipRefill can be accessed and used from the ZipList, in the Titles I Currently Have Out section.

If you require any additional assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

Sincerely,

The Zip.ca Member Service Team

I've noticed that zip.ca is extremely slow since it introduced its new layout.

Agreed its a little slow, but I am loving this new layout. Its really informative and has the novelty "wow" effect, at least on me.

Guess will give them a few days to get it straightened out.

I must say, I am more impressed now that I was before. I rejoined the other day after a 4 month hiatus. I must say, the quality, selection and speed has really improved.

The DVDs arrived in the Xpresspost package the next day. Also they seem to have obscure titles I can't find elsewhere. And almost everything seems to be avaliable.

I had the crappy misfortune to have a rental lost in the mail when it was sent to me.

I hate the way zip.ca treats you like a criminal when it happens due to the incompetence of the idiots at canada post.

I told them that if they don't allow me to be use their new zip refill feature because of one lost rental in the mail, I'm cancelling my membership.

i love the way they give imdb and rottentomatoes ratings when you're deciding whether to choose a movie or not. heheh i always check those two anyways, they just made my life so much easier. :D

You know, the "missing DVD" thing is really the only thing scaring me about zip.ca

I mean, people complain about MoviesforMe and DVDHype, but when a DVD is lost or broken, they're cool about it. They say "Okay, thanks for letting us know, we'll send you a new one right away."

I mean, is it really worth it to steal a used DVD from a rental place that has your CC? Makes no sense to me.

I will say, at least for me, that Zip.ca seems to lose discs a little too often. I have been a member of 3 different online DVD services, including MoviesforMe, and Zip is the only one where discs have gone astray.

My recent experiences:

In June, I noticed they had not received a disc, and informed zip without much hassle, and was declared 'missing' on the ziplist. Again in August, I mailed back 4 discs at once, and 2 were marked as never being received. At this point they said my acct would be put on hold while they investigated with CanadaPost - however I would not be charged during this period (gee, thanks). About a month later, they sent me an email to let me know they had completed their 'investigation' and that I would not be charged. In mid November I mailed back 7 discs to 2 different dvd rental places at once in the same mailbox, and another 2 of zip's were the only ones to go missing. I was expecting the worst, but to my surprise zip said my account would continue on as normal. My final stroke of bad luck, is that yet another disc in the very next batch that was sent out has not been reported as being received. I've been trying to email them about it the past couple days, but having problems with the website along with everyone else!

Don't know what is up witht he other folks, but in the past month I had a broken DVD and a DVD that had a knife taken to it, and they replaced both DVDs without any problems.

Still is getting alittle better speed wise now.

yeah its a lot faster today, at least it was faster after 8. pretty slow during the day tho, i think their new format might be too intensive database intensive for their older servers to handle. what with looking up ratings, and reviews and trivia and waht not. looks like they might need an upgrade.

The ZIP guy I exchanged emails with yesterday said they did upgrade the hardware, but apparently some of the new code was leaking memory or not closing connections. If so their full daytime load might be chewing up resources and producing the terrible response time we're seeing. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow. I had a couple of disks ship out, so it probably isn't affecting their back room operations.

I wanna try zip.ca for 2 weeks. Do they charge your credit card during your trial period?Or after it's finished?

They charge you up front

See this thread, I was PISSED when they charged me twice
So I e-mailed them constantly to get them refunded. Saw my $28 refund, haven't seen the $14 one yet

If you're wondering which rental service to go with, check out Morgan's site Online DVD rental guide (http://onlinedvdrentalguide.ca/index.php)

It has comparisons and forums just about Canadian online rental sites.
