Check out their site. they got lot's of pictures of people lining up at the store.

Vampire Chronicle, on the other hand, brings back load times to the PlayStation days, with a wait of nineteen seconds prior to your first fight and no fast character select option. We'll save further comment for in-depth impressions stories later on in the day.

(I'm not into any kind of console gaming at all, so I don't know what the standard is.)

For portable gaming, hell yes. With the Nintendo DS you're in the splash page in about 1.5 seconds. When you wanna game when you're in line, you want it to boot up in a hurry. The DS also has a standby mode like a laptop when you close the lid, the moment you open it you're back to where you were pretty much instantly.
So 15-19 seconds is an eternity. But yes, the graphics are fine.

Gamespot said something about Ridge Racer depleting the battery life in about 3 hours! Holy crap, that must be a really demanding game. Sony really gotta release a better battery.

just did a quick search and some are up tp $900+ CAD. There's only one seller from Canada who has one but he states he's still in Japan and will be back on the 18th....so not a good thing...
Anyway, what is the actual price for this thing? I don't think it was in that article...

Gamespot said something about Ridge Racer depleting the battery life in about 3 hours! Holy crap, that must be a really demanding game. Sony really gotta release a better battery. Geez... And battery life when watching a movie is supposed to be even less. Hopefully we'll get a newer version that has a longer battery life (I wish).
Well some DS's had a defect when they came out (mostly a dead pixel, which can't really be helped) and now it's PSPs turn:
Note: The following is from Leifang2000 of GameFAQs.
Consider these if you're deciding to buy or hold your preorder.
OK, reports from different Japanese sources confirmed different kinds of defects on the first shipment:

Ah man. Typical Sony quality control (the PS1 - bulky edition was notoriously badly built). I was gonna ask a relative to get me one while they are in Japan but crap, if it's this badly built, I'm gonna just wait for the North American release.

Ok, I just read on engadget and a different forum.
Two different guys swear they barely get 3 hours on Ridge Racer on a full charge. And that's exclusively playing Ridge Racer.
Everyone else who says 5 hours is full of BS.

I definitely like the looks of the large horizontal screen. Any closeup shots of the screen during gameplay to see how good the quality is?
I prefer the screen layout of the PSP over the Nintendo DS.

No not just certain games, ALL games will have that initial load time. So expect 10 seconds and up as the game is streamed to the RAM.

dtan
Dec 14th, 2004, 07:34 PM
26,000 for the value pack. That's about $300 cdn. The unit itself is 20,000. Auctions on yahoo are selling for about 15000 above retail. . .

I think she would have a very hard time finding it. :( They only released with 200,000 units, and I believe 100,000 more each week. I think most stores were selling it at the regular price.

Yup. All the stores are waiting for restocking and they don't know when they are getting restocked. The price is $260 US for the value pack. . . compare that to ebay. . .heh

Seems to be some reports of the LCD not being so perfect. The scary thing is the twisty motion the PS2 can suffer from and the UMD popping out as a result. That's just flimsy.
eBay and other importers are there to rape you. Best to get it at the source if you can. And avoid the "Value" Pack. IGN gave it such extremely low ratings (near-useless) as the remote is cumbersome, the earphones suck and the memory stick is far too small to use for the PSP's multimedia capabilities.
