Are any of my fellow RFD'ers playing this game ?
I just started playing it yesterday night and im already addicted.
Even though the game starts off slow a bit with alot of cut scenes, it seems like a game of the year candidate for sure.
I havent played the second one but i was diehard for the first one.
This story is taking place before 1 and 2 appearantly.
Excellent graphics and sounds, gameplay is good too and its really precise and lifelike.
Must have for any gamer out there who likes this genre.

There was another thread earlier posted, but I will say this again just:
Game of the Year... to me.
(It didn't even get half of the sales that either Halo 2 or GTA: SA got though, which is a shame since to me this game is clearly superior... have GTA and it's boring/pointless as hell... as for Halo, well I can't get into first-person shooters)
PS: This will probably be my favourite game this generation.
Also, try not to kill too many soldiers while you are playing... learned my lesson the hard way when I got to "that" particular part of the game.

Hideo Kojima is a true visionary game maker. Its visually stunning in both the cutscenes and the organic environments. The voice acting is superb as usual. The continuity with all the other Metal Gear games are evident even though this game takes place far before any in the series. I enjoyed fighting all the different bosses throughout the game. And there was a lot more female eye candy. There is a lot of replay value because of the weapons and special things you can get after completing it. Trying to find all those little green frogs is pretty tough.
The hardest thing to do is to beat the game in under 5 hours without killing anyone and you get something called the Infinity Camo. I know you can steal Camos from some of the bosses by trying to tranq them but that seems hard.
Gotta say that young Ocelot was ridiculously cool character, his gun swinging and juggling is sick.

I'm a die hard MGS fan, This is one of the best experiences in gaming ever for me. Definitely game of the year, Graphics sound Direction... everything about this game is a masterpiece... I fought "The End" for more than an hour(the hard way) and it didn't feel tedious...hehee, and i'm Rambo in MGS i kill everyone in sight... ;) Love it when that throat slits!

I concur.
Just got the stealth camo thingy after hitting the frogs.
It's refreshing to see how gameplay, story, soundtrack, and sensation (tactile!) help boost the level of immersion in this game. For one thing, i'm still amazed at how they made it run so beautifully on the ps2.
and yeah, the boss' cqc moves are awesome.

Easy by repeating the textures and texture models ;)
I prefer Halo 2 over this (much more replay value in Halo 2) and I'm not a big fan of the stealth genre. But Half Life 2 is GOTY for me. That engine will do great things (and still cost much less than a Doom 3 engine license).
If you ever wanna see cut-scene city, try Xenosaga for the PS2. that's a snore a minute "game."

Amen! I found the story presentation of MGS2 was better, but all the action and excitement of this game made MGS3 one of the best games for PS2 this year!
What a awesome year for games! This signals a much bigger growth in the market and shows what the future will be like.

Ya, this game rock. I tried getting the Croc Hat but I kept failing to get to the spot. I eventually gave up i got so frustrated. Would have came in use later on though :o let's just say lots of running involved while trying not to die lol.

Can't wait to pick this one up. Some of 2 was a disappointment. *cough*Raiden*cough*
Hey! Anyone here play the original Metal Gear? I'm not talking Solid on the PS1, but Metal Gear back on the Nintendo. I've still got it. Great game! And you can see where a lot of the little quirks in the MGS series originated from.
