I won an Xbox and am going to give it to my kids for Christmas. Trouble is, I know Nothing about what I need for this machine. What I won is just the basic machine and one controller (Whatever comes in the normal Xbox box)--what else do I need to get for this?--do I need a memory card?--anything else? My kids are 9 and 7--are there any games you'd recommend for them--I'd prefer to stay away from the voilent killing type games.

Nice free present! The package will be complete to be up and running. Might even contain a demo disc...I can't remember.
All you need are some games. Racing games are non-violent for the most part if they're into that.

Didn't get a demo disk with mine....
No memory card needed.... Its got a hard drive...
Guess your going to need some games....And a network cable to connect to your broadband router so you can get on Xbox live...
Then you are going to need Gotham Racing 2

You definately need another controller! Worst thing would be having your kids fight over who plays first!
Maybe Shrek 2, Looney tunes, theres a spongebob game

Ahh, yes, another controller--that I shoud Definately pick up!--so most of their games are two player games and they can take turns right?
They're both girls and not so much into the racing and stuff but the Shrek games and stuff sound good. Where's the best place to find games for a good price?

Get Halo 2 for yourself. Hide it from your kids. ;)

If you have a home theatre, definitely get the HD pack and optical cable to experience the games in 5.1 Dolby Surround. And if you have a widescreen TV/projector, even better! Not all of the games support 16:9 but the ones that do look great.

Nah sell it and get a PS2 instead. LOTS more selection ;)
Games for those ages are hard to come by on the Xbox. It's geared for the "mature" (what an oxymoron) gamer. Shrek 2, Finding Nemo, Incredibles, Barbie Horse Racing Adventures, Spongebob may be a good fit. Check out http://www.gamerankings.com before you buy the game to read up on the reviews. There are a few platformers but nowhere near the family type games the Gamecube and PS2 have.
