View Full Version : RFD Member admits to dual identities, should he/she not be banned?

A member has admitted to registering a second account which he or she used to repeatedly threadcrap a BST post in order to protect his or her identity. The new account was registered under the name "swiftie" and he or she states in this thread,
http://forums.redflagdeals.com/showthread.php?t=117061, "Im not a newb. I made an account to protect my identity". Hiding behind this new identity the member also became brave enough to start insulting other members of this board that brought the RFD BST rules to his attention.
While "swiftie" felt the need to publicly warn other RFD'ers about the potential legitimacy of the items, he or she broke several RFD rules including but not limited to creating dual accounts, not contacting the seller directly about the legitimacy of the items, thread crapping, and insulting other members. If actions like this are allowed to continue unpunished then what is to stop habitual threadcrappers from continuously registering under different user names to avoid punishment?
I find the fact that this member knew what he or she was doing was wrong and created this false identity to protect him or herself from punishment and the wrath of the other members of this board to be particularily appalling. I feel that this members real RFD name should be publicly identified and that the accounts of this member should be permanently banned.

Someone who acts like that should be banned. If you don't have the balls to say something under your own/well known identity don't say anything at all.

Admins can easily trace swiftie's IP to their other account; they'll deal with it as they see appropriate.

Maybe it's just me, but I think you should ban the guy who was selling all those illegally-obtained TTC tickets/tokens.
If you don't think those were counterfeit or stolen, then you're on cloud nine. Oh and by the way, I don't suppose you'd be interested in buying my magic seeds? $100 each, and they're guaranteed to grow into money trees. 1,000,000 seed minimum per order, please.

I agree 100%. The seller himself said "dont Ask How" he got them, which is an admission that there's some funny businesses going on.
The moderators should even consider reporting the information to the TTC and/or the police.

While the seller with the tokens does seem suspicious, it doesn't justify someone making a 2nd RFD account just for the purpose of flaming/threadcrapping in the BST forum.

Thanks for looking into this; I can't help but wonder if the poster was simply trying to deflect attention away from themselves by starting a witchhunt.

We are not here to snitch on anyone. If anything. The police should be here reading the posts as members and doing their duty to reduce fraud.
Regardless. The member has a right to post his sale. Doesn't matter if the items are fake or stolen. You don't have to buy them. You don't even have to read his thread.
It is your decision, he is not forcing you to buy anything.

definately they should be banned.. like hiding behind a mask and robbing someone. they use that account to rip people off and thread crap. i wouldnt give them a second chance since the second account is usually specifically made to cause trouble. if ur sharing computers then share the account, you'd get more posts and better rep so why bother eh.

Sharing accounts is not a good idea. Especially of the two individuals are completely different. One honest and one dishonest will ruin the reputation of the honest one.
It is hard to track Swiftie if he is using DSL. His IP will change and he can log in with multiple IDs.
If he is to be banned. Then ban him based on his actions. Not his claim of dual accounts, because that is too hard to track

Hey Absolute, not sure if you are referring to me as starting a witchhunt by starting this post but if you are I take great offense to that suggestion. I am just getting frustrated with the number of people that don't take the time to understand the RFD rules and miss the style of community that was present on RFD as short a time as 1 year ago. While it is fantastic for RFD to be the force on the internet that it has become, that extra exposure has brought more people that only seem eager to cause problems for the board. While the percentage of people causing problems has probably decreased due to efficient moderation of this board, their numbers seem to have increased of late as more and more people discover and join RFD.

I think Absolute was refering to Swifte, not you. In fact, if anything, he is on your side. He seems to want to get this guy off the board.
I am a recent member of the board and since I've discouvered it in August. I have been hooked.
You have to remember. Popularity will bring the masses. Good and bad. But Red Flag Deals have to grow to make it what it is. After all, it is the members that share their knowledge and experiences that makes this board as great as it is

I think it is the opposite, he is trying to bring attention to himself by provoking other members and creating controversy.
He thinks by using another alias, he can cover his ass. Because he expects to be banned. Then go back to his original user name.
The best thing to do is ignore him and leave it up to the mods. They can read his posts and realize that he is an idiot just trolling the boards because he is bored.

What kind of attitude is this - he has the right to try to sell stolen or fake goods? What world do you live in where this is acceptable? Remind me to never buy anything from you.

Unless you have proof, you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. It is only fair.
A member cannot automatically assume that his goods are stolen. It would not be fair to the person posting.
My post should have read.

You don't have to buy his items if you have any doubts. But you should not thread crap and start rumors that may ruin a persons reputation.

Moscoe urges TTC riders to 'squeal' on cheats
Police announce major bust
Fraud costs system $7M a year
Police and officials from the Toronto Transit Commission announced this morning that they have made three arrests and broken up a counterfeit token ring in an East York home that was costing the TTC $400,000 a year.
The allegations are just charges and have not been proven in a court of law.
TTC chairman Howard Moscoe called the arrests "a moment of pride," but said that these arrests won't end the counterfeiting.
Last July, the TTC announced a major bust of ticket counterfeiting ring.
TTC general manager Rick Ducharme said today that more than 450 criminal and provincial charges have being laid into alleged fraud-related activities.
Moscoe said "it's going to happen again and again, but we're getting better at catching them."
He said the help of the public is crucial in busting fraudulent operations that cost the TTC about $7 million a year.
"I urge people to squeal on people," Moscoe said, adding that people can report crimes to Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.
He said fraud costs all TTC riders and could result in higher fares.
Police say the TTC became aware of counterfeit tickets being circulated as early as 2001.
Using surveillance, police say they uncovered counterfeit tokens, tools, equipment and raw materials in making the arrests Nov. 19. Also confiscated was a self-made plaque commemorating the illegal minting of their 400,000th counterfeit token.
The three suspects have been identified as Domenic Bevilacqua, 59, Lou Bevilacqua, 54, and Enzo Bevilacqua, 48.
They are charged with three counts of the manufacture of slugs/tokens, three counts of fraud over $5,000 and four counts of the possession of slugs/tokens.

of course it's soemtimes hard to track, i cant say anything about that but people with dual accounts are trolls.

I would have just reported this to crime stoppers, posted a single message in the thread saying it's probably not legit, and left it at that.
That being said, I support a stiff warning or temporary ban. I have no doubt swiftie was merely trying to inform people that these tokens are probably illegal, but he did it in the wrong way.
