View Full Version : Beef $2 per lb! (Alberta)

Hi, I am not sure if I can post this as a Hot Deal but to be safe I thought that I would post it here.

My family has owned and operated a mixed farm in northern AB for a long time (~100 years). Thanks to the beef crisis they have alot of good beef that is not worth very much despite what the grocery stores will tell you! Therefore I am advertising for them. I figure they can give you a good deal , while still making a (little) profit themselves.

To keep things simple, the minimum that they want to sell is a 1/2 animal (~350lbs), but that is not really that much if you split it with a couple of friends. This includes all cuts that come with the 1/2 including steak (tenderloin, sirloin, round etc), roasts (round, chuck, tenderloin, etc), and hamburger. Everything is, inspected and cut to your specification by a quality butcher that our family has used for 25+ years.

As the title says they are asking only $2 per pound! That is cheaper than you pay for just hamburger in the store, let alone for steak... check it out!

Unfortunatly since we are both located in Alberta, this deal is mainly restricted to the province, since we include shipping to Calgary and S. Ab in the price!

PM me for more details or to place an order! :)

Man, if I lived out west, I would be all over this. After a big bbq, it would be a real HOT Deal!!

Seriously though, good luck selling. Alberta farmers have been getting killed by our stupid government not standing up to the US on the border being closed because of one case of BSE.

This is definitely a good deal for anyone interested. Just keep in mind you'll need a mid to full size freezer. ;) Typically from a side of beef you'll get about 60 lbs of hamburger, lots of roasts and steaks with just about every conceivable cut, brisket, stewing beef, liver, etc. A side of beef can feed a family for about a year to 18 months (depending on number of people, etc).

I would jump on this one in a heartbeat! Out of curiosity, what kind of cattle? We raised registered limos...

it used to be all simmental but recently I think that they have been trying to breed in either Herford or Limo but I can't quite remember. It has been a while since I was seriously involved in "farm talk" ;)

you are right about amount of freezer space tho! :P I figure with the amount that you save, you could buy a small freezer and still come out ahead... far ahead!

I'd bump this up for you too.

I'm from Vancouver, and I'm going to school in Edmonton right now. One of my roommates last year is local here, and his family has a ranch as well. Last time I went to visit their ranch, his mom give me a bunch of beef, and I swear to god, all the way from the hamburger to the T bones, I have *never* tasted such lean, good beef before!! Alberta beef simply rules. If the min. purchase wasn't so much, I'd sooo be buying from you right now!

yep cut and wrap included! ;)

oh yeah, forgot to mention that my parents live about 1/2 between Edmonton and Saskatoon. I am sure that they could work out a meet to exchange the meat!

As far as the half minimum, it gets too complicated for us to split a half because different cuts come from the front and the back. Nothing saying you and a couple of your better friends couldn't sit down for 20 minutes of tradseys tho!

Are you near Battleford or Lloyd?
I'd buy some, but the inlaws are trying to make a go of cattle farming too, and they keep our freezer full from time to time. In any case though, that's a great deal on the meat! Cut and wrap is hard to bargain out of people selling meat nowadays. Nice offer, I'll see if any co-workers could use some. :D

South of Lloyd. Thanks for looking out for us. The unfortunate reality is that you don't have to look too hard nowadays to find a farmer who is willing to sell their meat for much cheaper than what it is going for in the stores. Somebody is making a killing along the way and it ain't the farmers!

Sounds like a great deal.

Just wanted to confirm that the meat has been federally inspected?

Also, how much room does 350lb of beef cuts take?

The meat is inspected by the butcher, you can expect that 350 lbs would take up the better part (1/2 - 3/4) of a large freezer. PM me if you are interested. We can have some in calgary shortly after xmas (1st week of Jan!) :) ... maybe sooner ;)

All butchers are inspected regularly to rigorous standards. The last thing you need to worry about is if the meat has been federally inspected. Meat cutters are under so much scrutiny, you're better off in their shop than a hospital, clean-wise.

Sounds like a great deal.

Even if it does reopen in 5 months, that is still about 2 years after when it should have opened! Besides it is not very often that the real truth comes out of GWB's mouth anyways, most of the time he's just talkin out his a$$.

It is a good deal no doubt about it.

Myself I plan on going down that road here in the Maritimes.

Meat is way too expensive at the supermarket.
Can't afford it anymore.

But this is what I don't understand... farmers are selling their meat dirt cheap for various reasons known to everybody and yet we are apying so much at the store???

yep, somebody is making a pretty penny and it isnt my family! >:( I just can't understand how the price of live beef can drop from ~$1.20 per lb to $0.30/lbs now and there is very little change at the store!

Check it out. Buy it from me and we both get a great deal! :)
