View Full Version : Bringing Back Old Threads

Lately there have been a lot more instances of users (usually newer users - coincidence?) bringing really old threads back from the dead and adding pointless replies to them.

This is irritating enough in Off-Topic or other threads, but it's also happened in "Hot Deals", where the title has never been changed to reflect that the deal is dead, since the thread died before the deal.

I remember there were some guidelines for this, but I can't find them, and apparently neither can anyone else.

I suspect that the people doing it are likely the new generation of VD wannabe's, so posting replies in the thread asking them not to do it doesn't seem like a worthwhile solution.

Any thoughts? Or should we basically learn to live with it? :)

I think it was VD, or possibly someone else who already mentioned there should be something like a 3 month, or 6 month autolock on non-active threads. Nothing ever came to it, and I doubt nothing will. It's just something we're going to have to live with.

I still use the the 3 month rule, just use the "Report this post" and we'll get to it eventually.

So we look for old threads and report them on a daily basis... or are you saying if someone brings a post back from the past we should report the post to have it locked so the next time it won't get bumped...

Generally speaking, live with it.

I don't mind it, how much time have you wasted to see what the date was or ignore it , or just don't look at it all, skip, go to the next thread!
