Enough with pine tar everywhere

Is it just me or does anyone else find all the pine tar on the helmets to be a little disgusting.

I have noticed a bit before and did not have any problem with it but Boston seeme to have taken this way beyond to bound of good taste. Doesn't MLB have some responsiblilty to ensure that uniforms are somewhat respectable.

For the longest time, I thought it was mud.

I would prefer MLB tackling the body armour that people like Barry Bonds wear, before going after the tar lovers...

I always think they did that in purpose to be "not Yankees". Yankess does not allow facial hair. Sox put them on. Yankees wants you clean. They made them dirty.

I don't know if you were addressing to my comment. I assume you were. Did you notice Yankees batting helmets are always clean (at least in the beginning of the game)? Same for Jays. I don't know if they wash it or have a new one though.

As for the Jays, I think Vernon Wells is always kinda dirty. Of course, nothing like Orlando Cabrera's. :cheesygri

EDIT: I thought Chuck Knoblauch had a pine tar-filled helmet (he's known to have one when he was with the Twins). But the more I think about it, the more unsure I am so I removed that part.

Actually it was to the OP...

If a team has restrictions on how clean you have to be, so be it.

Does noone remember Ozzie Guillen's helmet with the White Sox? It looked like it had been in a war, and yet the rest of the team's helmets were generally fairly clean.

the OP needs to take the soapbottle from his rectum, and enjoy the game, not critique the appearance of the helmets.

It's not really that they try to put it on the helmet intentionally. They rub it, usually a lot of it, on the bat. One of the more common rituals during batting for a lot of players is to adjust the helmet. It just gets transferred over to the helmet over time.

It is definitely intentional. Most of the offenders on the BOSOX where batting gloves. I agree with the comments that it is an attempt to be anti-Yankees. which I applaud, I just think they took it too far.

Was glad to see them win one. Wonder if Bosox fans can love a Winner as much. Guess they could always become Cub fans.
