View Full Version : Who is your ALCS MVP?

Since it is hard for Boston to lose, I guess we can safely choose the MVP from Soxs.

My choice is Dave Roberts who produced 2 runs that forced extra inning in game 4 and 5. Although he only PR, his Stolen base and speed produced that 2 runs that forced extra innings of 2 games.

Gotta respect what David Ortiz has been doing

I think David Ortiz is the man. He was consistent throughout the series and really brought the Red Sox back into the series while in Fenway

Although Dave Roberts got the important steal and run, I dont think it can compare to how clutch Ortiz is

David Ortiz w/o a doubt.
If it wasn't for him (in Game 4 & 5), there'll never be a Game 7

4 straight wins, yeah!! Now I wish Maple Leaf can do that

Without a doubt, Ortiz, he kept them in the series.

But without Dave Roberts, Ortiz could never hit his winning RBIs in extra innings. That is no game 5, 6 and 7.

That was a clutch steal....still, Ortiz contributed more to the series

Ortiz probably did do more in a whole.

However that stolen base was the turning point of the whole series. Without that stolen base and that run to tie the game 4, whatever Ortiz did would be meaningless. Ortiz also popped out as the last batter in the 9th inning of game 4. Same for the 8th inning of game 5. That is if Roberts did not score, whatever Ortiz did would be meaningless.

I understand your reasoning, but that's not the way the MVP works. That stolen base was a given...Dave Roberts has an amazing success rate.

Of course it was sort of given because it is Dave Roberts. Who else in Boston roster could do the job? Who else in Boston roster could distract Gordon in Game 5 like him moving around in first base? That's why they got him from LA ... probably just for that stolen base and that distraction. :cheesygri

As a whole Ortiz did the most during the series. He even led today with a 2 run homer.

If you could take any one player to play 9 innings in each of the 7 games, would you choose Roberts over Ortiz?

yes, Roberts had some clutch steals, but then you still need someone to drive him home. There wouldn't be a game 5,6,7 if Roberts didn't steal the base? There also wouldn't be any game 5,6,7 if Ortiz didn't bring him in.

I really don't think it's a question.

Well said. Giving Roberts the MVP would be like giving a bench player in basketball the MVP because he hit the game winning shot at the buzzer to win the series over your top scorer for the series.

I did not dispute this. Actually, I agree with that.

Ortiz did NOT bring him in in both game 4 and game 5.

Ortiz. Gotta hand it to him, he refused to let the team choke and produced when it counted. This would never have gone to Game 7 w/o him.

With Roberts, the Sox got a key steal that forced the series to extend longer for the Yankees... But like someone said, you need people to drive them in. Would you give MVP to ppl that drove him in like Mueller cause he drove in someone like Roberts that also extended the series?

In the end, Ortiz's winning hits sparked the Red Sox run over Robert's base stealing and tying runs.
