Okay...I just watched this movie, and I have to say it's *completely* distasteful. I can't believe they have wrapped up in one movie: adultery, cannibalism, incest, abortion (very graphic scene might I add...), and fresh fetus! Are HK people just distasteful, how can the government allow such a film to be released and shown? It even made it to a few film festivals!
Since there seem to be a lot of asians on the board, just wondering what others thought of it?

The movie got a lot of publicity in HK because of the main concept of the movie and plus it was Miriam's first serious role as an actress. HOWEVER, I hear that it didn't live up to people's expectations.
MintChoco, I haven't seen the movie so I was just wondering if you thought the movie was worth watching? I know you thought it was disgusting but was it any good?

Just saw this over the weekend. It wasn't the greatest of movies, but ya gotta take it for what's it's worth. I think it was a more artsy movie than anything else. I mean the story/plot was pretty straightforward "the lengths people would go to for beauty" But I found the most interesting part of the movie was how it was directed.

The cinmeatography was pretty good...like someone said, it was more of an "artsy" movie the way it was filmed.
I'm just disgusted with the morality of the whole idea. I'm still really upset at seeing the abortion scene and baby fetus...it's wrong to show these things in a movie...and to show it in such GRAPHIC DETAIL!!!
My guy friends seemed to enjoy it, by any means it wasn't "scary". One friend even considered it intriguing/thought-provoking?
Anyhow, I think certain scenes were just grotesque, and I assume most other chicks wouldn't like it much either...at least I didn't. I stick to HK romantic comedies only from now on...

Hey, could you give us a synopsis of the movie? - it hasn't even registered on my radar. And what part of CA are you from?

Here is link to YESASIA website with a brief synopsis: YesAsia Link (http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1003745874/did-0/code-c/section-videos/)
I don't think the synopsis captures the essence of the movie, it's just GROSS... :o

"adultery, cannibalism, incest, abortion (very graphic scene might I add...), and fresh fetus!"
thx...thats a spoiler...there is no more mystery behind the movie now.
I watched the movie and it was great....love Fruit Chan. Miriam Chan did great job on her first dramatic role...
however my stomach wasnt feeling too good afterwards.
this is non spoiler:
Mrs. Lee (Miriam Yeung, 楊千嬅) is a bored housewife of a rich businessman. She finds in the back alleys of Kowloon the most expensive dumpling in Hong Kong.
This segment features the excellent acting of Bai Ling (白靈), the dumpling seller from Shenzhen, China, and the sophisticated cinematography illustrates the delicacy and the interesting process of making the dumplings.
