Doesn't anyone here think Asian restaurants, their washrooms are often sooo dirty? Like it's sooo nasty, and no one takes care of it. Makes me cringe when I have to go while I am at one. (Example, was at Walker Hill Korean BBQ on Hwy 7 opposite of Commerce last night, the men's washrooms were soo dirty! I been there 3 times and this is the only time I had to use the washrooms there..) They always smell, or have some very dirty brown crap or goo on the walls, floor, etc... I always hold my breath or think of my gf naked when I'm in these washrooms! LoL!! Takes my mind off of the nastiness of my current place that I am in! I'm just gonna not go to the washrooms in Chinese restaurants anymore, or, gonna go to the McDonald's closest to it since McDonald's have to have their washrooms clean, hehe. Afterall, they hire minimum wage paid students to clean them!
It's pretty much the same at any Chinese restaurants I know, the Vietnamese ones I been to in Mississauga (especially the Pho 99 franchises) those are clean! It's amazing!
You'd think those food inspectors that the federal government has running around would also rate washrooms too...

Why would you think of your girl friend naked in a dirty environment?
Just think about all the staff using the same washroom and not washing their hands. Then they come and serve you.
You are right. Vietnamese restaurants are exceptionally clean. Even the floor is not sticky.

well, the condition of the washrooms are also dependent on the patrons lack of manners...for example - spitting gum into the urinals, not flushing the urinals...ditto for the toilet...urinating on the floor/walls. I used to work in restaurants, asian, italian, french and when I talked to the cleaners/kitchen help, they simply told me that if the patrons show a lack of respect, then they deserve to use a nasty washroom. In a high class restaurant, you won't see this sort of thing because the patrons are more respectfull of the environment they are in.
this response is going to generate plenty of heat, but I am just telling how it is...

Chinese malls for that matter are pretty nasty.
Pacific's basement bathroom is so warm its gross.
Market Village bathrooms are ok, just really really old.
First Markham's smells
Metro's REALLY REALLY stinks
As for restaurants, Satay Rio, New World... all nasty
Two places whose bathroom deserves an honourable mention are:
1) Day and Night Steakhouse. Always clean, and very uniquely designed, esp, the women's.
2) Fang's at First Markham. Their bathroom is nicer than their dining area. Very bright, very clean, and well accessorized.

I think the washrooms in Pmall are decent. The one on the second floor with the statues and the parking garage washroom are actually pretty clean from my experience. Although I usually go during late night (probably after the janitors clean) and don't remember their condition during the day.

Hey felix, you're right it is the big red logo one. Its not that new however. Its been around for 2 years or so if not more. They just take pride in their establishment and try to put forth the best product possible.

pho maxim up in waterloo (University Plaza) was closed down after health inspectors found meats on the floor, dried blood all around, crap being stored in the fridge with the food, rat dumpings etc etc.
Read an article in the local paper and shortly after they re-named themselves... but same ownership.

which washroom are u talking about at metro? i find the basement one to be very respectable, hardly anyone uses it. and everytime i go, it's clean.
market village has more than one washroom, the one at the front is also decent, i woudln't say clean but a lot better than pacific.
pacific...all 3 are horrible
FMP does smell but on occasion, it's also respectable

I have to agree that restrooms at most Asian places are 'nastier' than their Western counterparts - but hey the trend is changing right??? And think about the conditions you would have to put up with in a restaurant in Asia - if they even have a bathroom at all... (remember the old 'squatter' toilets?)

Nope, Pho 99. There's one downtown on Dundas West, in mississauga one by Dixie and Dundas in the Zellers plaza, and Eglinton and Hurontario in the Toys R Us plaza, and finally, Grand Park by Burnhampthorpe and Grand Park drive.

There's a Zellers in the Chinese plaza where Pho 88 is? DIXIE and DUNDAS, where Value Village is, where Zellers is, where that buffet is, where Radio Shack is.... ;)
2nd: Ronin, the thread is Asian restaurant washrooms, where in my posting does anyone find offensive to be racist? Is it not true McDonald's hire minimum wage students? I know, I worked there in my teens. Got paid $6.40 at the time. And is it not true that Chinese restaurants and Pacific Mall like the members here mentioned, their washrooms are unclean?? So to state a fact is racist...right, I will remember that one from now on.
If the mods think I'm racist for what I wrote, why don't they ban the lot of the other people who agreed and added to my comment??

First of all, I find McDonald's washrooms to be really dirty and they stink. It might depend on location though, this is true to the ones I've been to, I tend to avoid their washrooms, head over to Tim Hortons or something I need to.
Also, I've been to one restaurant downtown, and the washroom was horrible. It was in the basement, and dirty, that part didn't bother me too much, the part that really annoyed me was that the ceiling was about 5 feet high. I had to squat down kinda to take a piss.

I disagree with your thoughts about the posting being racist.
I, being someone from HK, totally agree with the general trend of dirty washrooms at Chinese restaurants.
However, if you think those washrooms are bad, you haven't seen the public washrooms in HK. It's like entering a whole new dimension when you step through the doors of a public washroom in HK; the weather is usually hot in HK and so you have flies/mosquitoes festering everywhere in the washroom... I'm grossed-out already just thinking about it.

There is a little chinese buffet near Humber College where the sink in the bathroom does not have a drain. IT HAS A BUCKET UNDER THE SINK!!!! Someone has to go and empty in the toilet every once and a while. If I was a real @ss I would have left the water running when I left

Thing is restaurants aren't "public" they are private. Public bathrooms are even worse, omg those bathrooms at national parks or beaches are NASTY, and people go in barefoot

At Metro, the one upstairs by the elevator (I only to to Metro to play Jitz, and when i go for a break, thats the closest one and it STINKS)
Market... the one behind the Viet/Korean&Jap/Beauty Spa store. I use the one beside the frozen buns/dumpling store & Sogo usually. Dunno how the one by the aquarium is though... will need to look into it.
FMP's SO smelly, everytime i go it its so gross. Maybe its from everyone taking a dump...
ALSO, ever see shoeprints on the toilet seats on either side? Some ppl (Big Green's) don't know how to use or just prefer not to use a toilet seat and go retro in squatting. Kinda funny/sad/gross.
Also, I don't find his post to be racist. No point of starting a flame war blah blah

I'm a clean freak myself and you won't find a single dirty washroom/bathroom in my house. But even when I go over to my friends house and check out their bathrooms/washrooms... oh the black grimes on the bathtub walls and calcium build-ups around the handles etc... ew.
If your friend/family can't even keep a clean bathroom themselves... just imagine their respect for a public one.
So glad I'm a guy where I just have to stand up most of the time.

most asian restaurants have disgusting washrooms. but i'm a guy so it doesn't mean much, unless the floors are really dirty, because it'll get my nice shoes all dirty. i notice the mandarin restaurant has pretty clean washrooms though. it's probably okay for guys since most just go and take a leak and leave. the girls though...they have to take off their pants, sit and then do their buisness, lol, feel bad for them at dirty restaurants.

totally agree, the washrooms are a very good reflection of the class of patrons that frequent the place.. you got a really inexpensive restaurant and ur gonna attract people that don't look twice when lining themselves up with a toilet.. if you go to the keg, its a different story... chinese buffets sometimes have horrid bathrooms but frankie tomato's bathroom is above them all.
but chinese bathrooms are known for being crap.. do we really need a thread to cover this?

This thread is uneccessary. Everyone knows about asian restaurant washrooms. If you don't like it don't go back easy as that. They're not going to do anything about it and it's here to stay unfortunately. When you go to a restaurant you go with a purpose to eat. You don't go with the purpose of using their washroom.

In my opinion, I think that most chinese restaurants are owned by chinese people that haven't been here that long. Chinese food restaurants is a business that sells itself. You can find a dumpy little restaurant that a lot of people go to, because the food is good. I think the chinese people that own the restaurants, don't have good business skills. Don't look at things like keeping the place clean will keep people happy and coming back. They just worry about what they are there for, cooking your food, and making sure the food is good.
So they don't really think, "oh we should keep the bathroooms clean because it will keep people happy and coming back."
etcbq

Interesting! The only clean Chinese restaurant restroom I've seen is a Chinese restaurant was run by a Muslim guy!
And the nastiest restroom I have used was in China. I don't even want to remember.
Generally, except for Thailand, I find public/restaurant restrooms in Asian countries appalling. Public restrooms in most other countries in the west are pretty bad too. I have to agree that it's also partly a reflection on the patrons as well.
