If it's your first year on your own, it can be a shock to see how quickly your grocery bills add up. To stay on budget this semester, couponing can be very effective. We've all heard the buzz about Extreme Couponing lately, but between classes, studying and work, not everyone has 60 hours a week to hunt for coupons. Here are some simple strategies for keeping your bills down:
- Set aside a file folder for coupons. If you see a coupon for an item you need, cut it out and save it. Simply grab the ones you need before you do your groceries.
- Head online and save. Beyond being a source of coupons and deals, we regularly do weekly flyer roundups that highlight low priced items.
- Networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have become a whole new coupon repository. Follow your favourite brands' pages to know when they are having a new promotion.
- Sign up for reward points programs at your drug store. They often have bonus point events, so keep your shopping to those dates. Check their website to find coupons for bonus points on featured items too.
Couponing here in Canada isn't quite as "extreme" as in the States, but you can still save lots on your grocery bill by planning before you hit the stores.
