Free Sunday Guided Walking Tours @ High Park (GTA)

It's March, so maybe it's time to start making good on your possibly less than resolute New Year's Resolution to get in shape. One fun and invigorating way to get started is some good, old fashioned hiking. By sheer coincidence, you can take part in some scheduled, free guided hikes in High Park. These hikes are moderately paced, naturalist led hikes that are held on the second and fourth Sunday morning throughout the year. Tours lasts 1.5 hours. Sounds like a great way to get out there to get some fresh air and exercise. For a full list of scheduled hikes, each with different subjects (such as a hike that focuses on edible plants, and changing colours photography hike in the Fall), visit HighPark.org and navigate to the "Walking Tours" button in the middle of the page.

You can also call 416-392-1748 ext. 5 for more information. These walks are free and organized by the High Park Nature Centre, the High Park Community Advisory Council, High Park Initiatives and Colborne Lodge, but donations are welcome. Thanks to sprung for pointing out this freebie.

Free: Counseling from Registered Dietitians (ON, BC)

We've got a very helpful freebie this time. If you have questions pertaining to eating right, nutrition or related subjects, this is going to interest you for sure! EatRight, an initiative by the government of Ontario, is offering a free service where you can ask registered dietitians for diet and nutrition advice. You may submit questions online here or speak to a registered dietitian over the phone (toll-free) at 1-877-510-510-2 (Monday to Friday 9am-5pm). This is open to residents of Ontario only.

Update: Looks like B.C. residents have similar options. The B.C. Ministry of Health has had a Dial-A-Dietitian program running for some time. Visit their site for more information or call (toll-free) 1-800-667-3438. Greater Vancouver residents can also call 604-732-9191.
