Ideas/Surprises for your "Special Someone"

Valentine's Day doesn't have to be about spending a lot of money, if you can surprise your special someone or do something special for them, you don't need to spend a cent...

  • "Be original. Do it the day BEFORE Valentine's Day and guarantee a reservation at your favourite restaurant - she'll be surprised. Then on Valentine's Day, just stay in and watch a movie. Brownie points for a chick flick." - ShaTR
  • "My wife and I have the tradition of not doing anything on Valentine's Day, but doing stuff before or after. All the restaurants are crazy busy on Valentine's Day. I'd rather go out when it's a lot quieter and maybe a little more romantic. That, and roses are half the price if you do it the week before!" - dhamilton
  • "Do something special around the house - do a special cleanup job in advance, or prepare a special meal, or build those shelves or fix that leak you've been promising/meaning to do. You know your spouse - do something special that they'll appreciate! Combine that special thing with a cuddle/talk evening you've got a great one-two punch!" - BlueMax
  • "Winterlicious is coming up and is fairly close to Valentine's. I took her to one of the really high end restaurants for dinner, part of Winterlicious. It wasn't too heavy on my pocket, and we both had a good time." - Electricute

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

...but getting a gift isn't a bad idea either. Here are some ideas from RedFlagDeals.com forums:
  • Giant Valentine Card: "I used a red display board from Staples/Michaels (8.49), I bought a piece of white bristol board at Dollarama (.50) for the center where things will be written. I also bought a few vday/heart/love scrapbooking things from Dollarama. I wrote a little love letter and put it in the middle." - photong
  • Sticky Notes Messages: "Buy a pad of red or pink Post-It Notes. Write lovely thoughts, poems, quotes, or even words like "I Love You," "You have the key to my heart," etc. You may want to write these thoughts on the underside of the notes. Then, surprise him or her by sticking the notes all over. You can stick them on a large surface, such as a vacant wall, vanity mirror, etc. in a heart-shape pattern. Then, as your recipient begin to peel, he or she can turn over to read out each of the quotes. Hope that this helps." - bchow
  • Sticky Note Coupons: "You can get a pad of sticky notes or whatever and write down coupons...like: 1 FREE MASSAGE, 1 FREE DINNER, 1 FREE LUNCH, 1 Kiss and so on...then she can use them whenever/wherever." - Crimzaelus
