DealExtreme: Laptop Sleeves $5 US or Less, USB Power Adapter/Charger $4.90 & More + Free Shipping
Need more gadgets or accessories for your computers and electronics? Of course you do! That's why we're taking another look at some nifty offers from DealExtreme.com, a Hong Kong based seller of electronics, gadgets and toys. Prices are in US dollars, but pretty much everything has free worldwide shipping included in the price. Since items are shipped coming from Hong Kong, delivery can take from 2 to 4 weeks, but the prices are hard to beat! Here are some items that might be of interest:
We've mentioned some of these items before, but all of them remain good deals. The Super Mini Bluetooth Adapter is an outstanding pickup at less than $3. The USB Power/Adapter charger is just like the one that would come with an iPhone, but would be handy for charging many portable electronics from a wall outlet. The iPhone dock also looks like an excellent value.
Last, but certainly not least, there's a nice selection of laptop sleeves available. We don't recommend you try these out by throwing or dropping your notebook, but these sleeves give laptops some extra protection from scratches, scuffs, and bumps in a backpack or other bag.

Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Virus, Spyware, Malware Protection
Microsoft is throwing it's hat into the ring of free anitvirus packages and spyware detectors with Microsoft Security Essentials. It's a new, and free security package that includes virus, spyware, and malware protection all in one for Windows PC users. The early reviews are quite positive with Ars Technica being very impressed with the lightweight and unobtrusive installation:
"It should be noted that MSE is very small; the installer sizes range from just over 4MB to under 9MB. The installation is also very quick and the program's folder takes up only about 13MB. MSE sports a single tray icon (hidden by default in Windows 7) that indicates it is running. The software doesn't add any browser toolbars, desktop gadgets, or additional bloatware during installation."
Free and lightweight? Sounds like it's worth a try.

Dell Quad Core PC Deals from $579 including $749 i5-750, $849 i7-860 & $999 Loaded i7-860 (updated)
October 27 Update: The configurations and prices have been changed around a little. All of the systems now feature Windows 7 and some have seen hardware upgrades (like 4GB RAM instead of 3, and 500GB hard drives instead of 250GB).
Originally Posted October 21: If you've been waiting for the right time to buy a new desktop PC, Dell.ca currently has an impressive selection of Vostro PCs with quad core processors to choose from. The release of Intel's new i5 and i7 processors has shaken things up (in a good way), and Windows 7 is now available as well. It's a good time to be considering a purchase.
At the "low end" of these deals, there is a Vostro 420 Tower with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Q8300. At the other end of the spectrum, $999 will get you a Core i7-860 equipped Vostro 430 PC with 8GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro, and a 1TB Hard drive. Here's a more detailed look at the systems:
- $579 Vostro 420 - Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300, 500GB HD, 3GB RAM, 512MB Radeon 3450, DVDRW, Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit
- $749 Vostro 430 - Intel Core i5-750, 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, 512MB Radeon 4350, DVDRW, Windows 7 Home Premium w/Media 32 bit
- $849 Vostro 430 - Intel Core i7-860 (manually selected), 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, 512MB Radeon 4350, DVDRW, Windows 7 Home Premium w/Media 32 bit
- $999 Vostro 430 - Intel Core i7-860, 1TB HD, 8GB RAM, 512MB Radeon 4350, DVDRW, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
The Vostro 420 isn't bad, but if processing power is of the utmost importance to you, then you will definitely want to consider the i7-860 systems.
These systems offer great value in our book. For many mainstream users and certainly for businesses, it would be quite difficult to go the "build-it-yourself" route for comparable systems when you have to factor in manpower, all of the components, operating systems, assembly and testing, as well as shipping (which is free from Dell.ca).

Amazon.com Now Ships Computers, Electronics, Tools, Kitchen Items and More to Canada!
Good news for all the online shoppers out there, Amazon.com now ships a large selection of their Apparel, Automotive, Computers, Electronics, Home, Personal Care, Kitchen, Outdoor Living, Tools, Video Games and a few other categories to Canada through Amazon Global! Books, Music, and DVDs have always been deliverable to Canada, but the new product categories opens up a huge product selection. A quick look inside the electronics category indicated that over 10,000 items are shippable to Canada, while inside of the Watches category, there are over 19,000 products.
Shipping charges range between $4.99 US and $7.99 US per shipment, plus an additional $1.99 US to $3.99 US per item. An import fees or duties that may apply will be visible during the checkout. The full Canadian shipping details can be found here. Amazon.com's prices are quite competitive to begin with, so even with the shipping and import costs, deals are bound to turn up for Canadians. The strong Canadian certainly helps, too.
You can see the entire Canada-shippable product selection from the first link, but you can also identify whether or not a given item ships internationally by looking in the "Product details" section. Under shipping it will say "This item is also available for shipping to select countries outside the U.S" or "Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S".
A big thanks goes to Al Kaseltzer for spotting and sharing this!
