The Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) Has Arrived - Learn About It!
The new year means there are new opportunities for you to get the most out of your money. As of today (January 2, 2009), the Tax-Free Savings Account introduced by the Government of Canada in the 2008 Budget has been made available. In a nutshell, Canadians will be able to set aside up to $5000 each year in various savings options and not have to pay tax on the income earned or on withdrawals. If you haven't already, you can check out our feature article from 2008 called A Wealth of Choices: Understanding the New Tax-Free Savings Account that will help you understand what the Tax-Free Savings Account is all about and how it can impact your financial planning.
In the coming days as banks and financial service providers make their TFSA offerings available, we'll be putting together a comparison of the different services, features, and fees from major players. Until then, here are the respective TFSA information pages from various institutions:

Newegg: Tatung 3L Hot Water Dispenser $41, Griffin iPod Transmitter/Charger $25 + Free Shipping
Newegg.ca has some pretty interesting deals right now that all come with free shipping -- everything from a good LGA775 motherboard, to electronic hot water dispenser, to a travel-shaver! Have a look:
It's an eclectic mix, but these are some good deals! The Gigabyte motherboard is priced at $158.99 before the additional rebate and it has an average rating of 5 stars based on 218 review at Newegg. The Griffin RoadTrip FM Transmitter & Car Charger sold for about $100 at the Apple store not too long ago. The electronic hot water dispenser is also priced well. It keeps water hot (or warm) so you cut down on the waiting time for tea, hot chocolate, soups, oatmeal, instant noodles, and lots of other things. It's particularly nice with the cold weather and the need for hot drinks in a hurry!
Note that "handling fees" are simply where Newegg.ca lists Canadian taxes. There's also a $1 US fee attached to all orders that covers brokerage, and ensures that you don't get hit with any additional fees at the door.

TigerDirect.ca: I-inc 19” Widescreen LCD $120, Harmony 550 Remote $60, Refurb. Nuvi 680 $220
If you were looking for some items like inexpensive basic monitors or universal remotes and didn't find what you were looking for during Boxing Week, TigerDirect.ca might be of assistance. Check out some of their current deals:
If you missed out on the Harmony 550 when it was $49.99 not too long ago, $59.99 is your best bet at the moment. For its part, the I-inc 19" LCD looks to be well suited for low cost computing. It's low on the frills (although it does have built in speakers), but it is priced accordingly. Lastly, we turn to the Garmin Nuvi 680. This GPS unit is a bit older, but still packs a punch with features like Bluetooth, MP3 Player, FM transmitter to play MP3s over your car stereo, and more. This unit received an editor's choice award from GPSmagazine.com in 2007.

Get a $13 Bonus on a $100 ING Direct Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) Deposit
Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) offers and promotions should continue for at least the next few months as banks try to generate awareness among their clients as to the benefits of the TFSA's. We've got an excellent primer on TFSA's here if you haven't been following their introduction. If you have done some research already, ING Direct has another TFSA offer if you open up a Tax-Free Savings Account with them. It's very simple actually, just open up a Tax-Free Savings Account and deposit at least $100 before January 31st and you'll receive a $13 bonus that will be paid into a non-registered Investment Savings account. The nice thing about this offer is that it applies to everyone regardless of whether you have an Investment Savings Account there already and the deposit minimum is so low that you'll get a 13% return on that $100 risk-free. Make sure to read the other details and the fine print as well:
ING DIRECT is offering a special bonus for everyone who enrolls for their first Tax-Free Investment Savings Account between January 1st and January 31st, 2009. When you enroll for your first Tax-Free Savings Account with an initial deposit of $100, you will receive a $13 bonus that will be paid into your Non-Registered Investment Savings Account by the 28th of February 2009. In the event that you do not already have a Non-Registered Investment Savings Account, a ‘companion account’ will be opened for you so that you can receive this bonus. Please note that this offer is also available on the first non-registered Investment Savings Account you open with an initial deposit of at least $100.
