    Dell.ca: Studio XPS 8000 PC w/ i7-860, 8GB, 1TB HD, Radeon 4350, Win7 Home Prem. $999

Dell.ca has another good desktop offer for those of you looking to make the jump to the Intel Core i7 line. Actually, this offer provides some interesting competition for the current $999 i7-860 Vostro 430 offer, but there are some nice additions here.

Studio XPS 8000 Desktop PC with Intel Core i7-860, 8GB RAM, 1TB Hard drive and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - $999
    • Windows 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English
    • Intel Core i7-860 processor(8MB Cache, 2.80GHz)
    • Microsoft Works 9.0, English
    • 1 Year Limited Hardware Warranty with In Home Service after Remote Diagnosis
    • 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 4 DIMMs
    • 1TB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
    • ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB
    • 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
    • Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
    • Dell USB Keyboard
    • Dell Studio Optical Mouse
In terms of components, it looks nearly identical to the Vostro 430 (although Vostro 430 in question has Windows 7 Professional while this XPS 8000 has Home Premium). Where the Studio XPS 8000 differs much more us case design. The Studio XPS 8000 has little more more style with a black face and white sides and top. It also has a built in card reader and some neat additions on top of the case -- a power button and USB/audio ports in a tray. An easy-access power button and a tray for use with USB keys, charging phones or MP3 players or even holding change sounds very handy. You can check out some screenshots of the case here.

    Shipping is free.

Apple: New iMacs (inc. 27” model with IPS 2560x1440 display for $1799), New Mac mini & More

Yesterday (October 20), Apple took the wraps off new revisions of the iMac, Mac mini, and the MacBook (non-pro).

We'd say the biggest changes come to the iMacs, which now pack 16:9 widescreen LED-backlit IPS panels. In that department, we think the $1799 27" iMac with a 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo Processor, 2560 x 1440 resolution, 4GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, and Radeon 4670 is is actually a pretty appealing deal. An LED-backlight 27" IPS display with staggering resolution would surely cost a pretty penny, so we consider that a big part of the price tag. The actual computer hardware isn't too shabby either.

Elsewhere, the Mac mini has gotten some hardware upgrades (faster Core 2 Duo processor, more RAM, and bigger hard drives). Apple has also introduced a Mac mini server, which omits the optical drive and instead, allows for a second hard drive. The news on the MacBook front is less exciting -- it gains unibody construction but uses white plastic instead of aluminum like the more expensive MacBook Pros.
