Skype: $2.95/Month Unlimited* Calling to Canada/United States
Skype is currently offering some impressive subscription rates for functionally unlimited calls. Navigate to "Prices" and choose "subscriptions" under the Pay Monthly option. There, you'll find rates of $2.95 for unlimited calls to landlines and cell phones in the US and Canada and $9.95 for unlimited calls to landlines in 34 countries worldwide. The one catch is that "unlimited" means 10000 minutes due to fair usage policies, but still works out to over 5 hours of talk time per day per month, so you could call that functionally unlimited.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Skype, it is a software program that allows users to make calls over the Internet to other Skype users free of charge. With the fees and within the restrictions seen above, the you will be able to call landlines and cellphones.

i purchased skype pro and i seemed like that was a better deal. atleast it had a $12 skype credit

unless skype is blocked for you… then just use some other SIP service

Yes for the Unlimited CA/US promo, you can only use it within CA/US (though there are ways around this).
If you’re in China and will be calling CA/US a lot, have a look at http://www.themagicjack.ca/
It will be even better once they are able to provide CA numbers (only US numbers at this time), but it beats skype IMO. I like Skypes accessory options though.
