Rogers & Fido: Refreshed iPhone 3G 8GB for $49 or 16GB for $99 on 3-Year Term + Data Plan

If you've been waiting for a low price point to pick up an iPhone, Rogers and Fido might have what you're looking for. With a 3-year agreement and a data plan, you can get "refreshed" or "encore" 3G iPhones at considerable discounts (8GB models for $49.00, and 16GB models for $99.00).

What do refreshed or encore mean you ask? Essentially, these are unused or very lightly used iPhones that have been returned. Fido offers "refreshed" iPhones, which are phones that have been returned within 15 days from the date of activation. Rogers offers "encore" phones, which are phones returned within a 30 day warranty period. In both cases, the phones are either unused or used lightly and must still pass rigorous final Quality Assurance testing before their sale.

Don’t forget to add the $35 Admin fee which makes the price of the iPhone either $84 or $218!

I called to check if you could get these without contracts.

Rogers - Mobile Dept: 3year contract minimum
Rogers - General Inquiries: 1year contract minimum

Fido: 3 year contract with $50 Data package add on minimum.

how does it make sense that on the rogers website it says

REGULAR iphone 3g 8 gig-->199
REGULAR iphone 3g 16gig-->179

don’t know about rogers. but for fido, you can have iphone 3G 16G with a 3-year contract but without data plan. you’ll have to add data plan if you want 8G iphone. don’t know how it works in that way but that’s what i was told by fido csr.

OK. Let’s do the math. Over the course of the cheapest Rogers 3-year iPhone contract, you’ll fork out about $2,482 plus the price of the handset.

Getting a $49 used iPhone will save you a mere 4% of the total cost. Far better to buy the latest 3G S model instead.
