Thanks a lot for not including Quebec in this contest. Considering its part of Canada and this site does not want to make the effort in including Quebecers.

I second your comment Gnuman!!  The reason why Quebec is excluded often in contests is because the province has more stringent rules regarding the legality of these contests.

But all it takes is a lot more effort on behalf of RedFlagDeals to research and adapt their contest to these rules!!

They should also make it clear that Quebec is excluded - why is Quebec available from the drop-down in this case?  That’s a little sneaky if you ask me....

Tried 5 times and will not accept my survey as it keeps asking to fill in a window that I already have regarding cc. This blows....wasted 10 minutes for nothing....:(

@Michy and others - it is not that Quebec is more stringent in its protection of consumers - far from it - It is, as has been explained numerous times here and other sites, that Quebec is special - special in that they require local registration and the corresponding extra fees to be submitted. Its those extra fees and the added expense of the paperwork that prevent smaller contests from being available there. Not everyone has the media budgets to cover such extra bureaucracy (money grabs) and still have anything left for the actual contest.

@liljohnny - silly (bady written) script won’t show you which ones you missed since they are not visible on the freakin form - bad bad code monkey - no bananas for you

Item that caused the error Why we could not add you yet
What is most important to you when choosing a credit card?  This item must be filled in.
How much do you expect to spend on gifts this holiday season?  This item must be filled in.
What percentage of your gift buying will you do online?  This item must be filled in.

Gah - hit the link to go back and the questions magically appeared and ready to be completed.

Bad BAD “BAD” code monkey.......

(wish we could edit or at least append our posts)

@Thrudd - duly noted that it is also a financial issue, but I find it hard to believe that RFD does not make enough revenue from internet advertising that the payment of the cost of 10% of the prize’s value (which is a requirement in QC) is unaffordable.

And the prizes for contests that are joint promotions such as this one are usually donated - so RFD wouldn’t have to spend money on the actual prize itself.

RFD makes money from users visiting its site from QC, the least they can do is include us in their contests.

And I still stand by my comment that it is sneaky to bury this in the rules and not make it clear prior to filling out the survey.

@Michy - Good point

One of RFDs former competitors (something to do with kippers or such) for such information had the foresight to use handy little icons denoting availability… Red Maple Leaf, Blue trefoil, Green maple leaf, white star, etc denoting places of availability and the same with a red slash denoting exclusion zones.

If you want then pester the RFD code monkeys to add that little bit of useful iconography.

- a 10% fee of prize value given? (not net cost either) All I can say is “Wow” lets hope Toronto’s mayor doesn’t notice this little gem.

There are many many contests that exclude Quebec.  I always wondered why but never knew but now I do—extra gravy train taxes…

@Thrudd - the little icons sound neat, perhaps that code be a way for RFD denoting provincial or nation-wide availability for deals put up?  And I definitely agree with you on Toronto not partaking in that!

@susanrosemary - just for the record, i’m from Ontario and presently residing in Quebec.  And a federalist.  Not all Quebecers are seperatists, but it is hard to see why not when other people from the rest of the country have such attitudes!

Lots of contests in Quebec that exclude the rest of Canada. Get over it!

I mean, voyons donc! La belle province, and je me souviens, and let’s be friends and everything mes amis, but let’s be honest too… if you’re “special”, and everyone knows Quebec is “special”, you might be so “special” that your laws are Napoleonic Code, not Common Law, the paper work is ridiculous, and there are extra charges on everything… and your civil servants are rude, rude, rude. Not worth it dealing with that.

Well I can understand why Quebec residents are annoyed about this. But instead of blaming each and every contest, why don’t you guys blame your government, and pressure them to change their stupid rules? Like seriously, are they that low on cash that they need to 10% tax every contest prize?
