This system is actually $699.99 at Newegg.com. The original price for these in 2008 was $1500-$1700, so this is a huge discount!
From what we can see, reviews for this system are very positive. GoodSound.com states that "Pioneer has put together a fabulous product in the incredibly versatile Elite X-Z9 compact stereo system. Elsewhere, DigitalTrends.com gives the system an editor's choice award and says that "the Pioneer Elite X-Z9 is a solid system with few quirks that make it enjoyable for those that are just into their music and want a system capable of great sound and lots of features. The quality of the sound, combined with the functionality and overall design make this a good investment choice for an all in one audiophile solution."

Back to $479.99
I picked these up and all I can say is that I love them. The build quality is amazing, and the design is pure class. The speakers are designed by KEF for Pioneer and feature their Uni-Q technology (http://www2.kef.com/ca/technology/uni-q).
I have it hooked up to the in the den to the TV, running the line outs from the TV into the receiver unit. I’ve programmed the remote on the cable box, and now I’ve got an amazing stereo receiver setup.
If I could afford it, I would get another set for the bedroom, and then hopefullyl pick up a 5.1 a/v reciever at some point in the future, along with a nice center channel and a sub…
But I’m getting ahead of myself.

A few questions for those familiar with this product:
Are the speakers mountable?
Is it easy to stream Internet radio or would a i-radio like the Sanyo or Aluratek be better?
Can it play from Windows shares?
Thanks

@escapehatch: No the speakers aren’t mountable.
As for internet radio, and network shares, I will first admit that I’ve not hooked it up (yet) to my network. From the documentation, Pioneer has teamed up with vTuner to provide internet radio service (check out http://vtuner.com/ and http://stereos.about.com/od/reviewsandrecommendations/fr/PioneerX-Z9.htm).
As for playing from Windows shares, what I know is that the systems plays meda from a DLNA server (dnla.org) and I believe Windows Media Player is such a program. So in this case you’d set up WMP to serve up your Windows share and the Pioneer should be able to see the files WMP is serving up from that share. However, having not done this yet I cannot vouch 100%.
