President’s Choice mobile uses Bell’s networks and has had unlimited data for $5 a month ever since its launch. Virgin Mobile also has unlimited data with streaming video, radio, and other stuff, also on Bell’s networks with the Samsung m510.

It’s just nobody pays attention to the little guys smile

In other news, Virgin is getting contracts soon it seems from their site :(

Hey Tedhead.... bell has always had the same internet as PC and Virgin, bcuz theyre the carrier that pc and virgin use.  The little guys are really Bell. So to all the geniuses who say pc and virgin has better reception than bell.... ur wrong, its the same reception.  And in ont/qc, the Telus reception is Bell’s reception.  They all use Bell towers in ON/QC.

The big deal with this Mr. Head is that this is a device on par with a Blackberry, Treo, Moto Q, or HP pda/device.  All those products require a $25/month data plan.  This is unlimited for $7.  Still think thats not such a big deal? Telus has the Touch too, minimum data package is $25.  Dont b shocked if telus changes their pricing.  All the stuff u mentioned is on the crappy mobile browser, which is not full internet like you get on a blackberry.  This is not the crappy mobile browser this is full internet.

The real question how do we get cheap unlimited data on a GSM plan so we can use our iPhones properly.. thats the real Question smile

Posted November 18, 2007 @ 2:07am

@SiNiSon

you think Rogers, whom probably spent millions of dollars to be exclusive carrier for the IPhone, will give you cheap unlimited data plan? Fat chance

Just be glad if they don’t block out the WiFi function of the IPhone.

speaking of that, Just glad I got my IPhone unlocked already. smile

Rogers never will, not when they have exclusivity on the iPhone.  Plus rogers doesnt have as much 3.5G coverage to compete with bell or telus.  so most people will get the same slow download speed of EDGE and they can charge you a premium.  I almost replaced my BB8830 with a Touch, but i just have to wait to get my $250 rebate which brings it down to $149.99 and then i can switch to the less expensive internet.  But for people already with just a regular flip cell phone, with $7 mobile browser as a stand alone, part of feature bundle, or as free with their corporate plan will still benefit from the unlimited net and email on a device that resembles the iPhone. I played with it, it is pretty damn nice.  I was impressed and it wasnt activated yet i can imagine how cool it’ll be with the EVDO 2.4 Meg speed for $7.  Shame i gotta wait a bit still.

When I visited the Bell site and read the “unlimited mobile browser” page, it doesn’t seem to specify that you’re restricted to the HTC. In fact, the lasr paragraph at the bottom seems to imlpy that mobile browser is available for most phones (where technology permits). I’m confused about the HTC restriction.

Posted November 18, 2007 @ 2:50pm

JivestTurkey

Mobile browser is available for all non PDA/Blackberry phones.  The other HTC’s also need a PDA data package.  Regular phones are the only ones that can use mobile browser.  That is why the HTC Touch is so great, you can use the cheap phone data on what basically is a PDA type device.  The where technology permits part just means not where theres analog.

So a HTC Tytn will need a data service and can’t use this deal?

Posted November 19, 2007 @ 11:30pm

Hopefully this will wake the other telcom’s up a bit because there data plans are ridiculous shaw, fido telus, all way overpriced. If Bell supported the Iphone I drop my fido contract in a minute.

Posted November 20, 2007 @ 3:03pm

JivestTurkey

Nope to Tytn and any other htc product.  Just the Touch, Only with Bell

I remember when I had the unlimted Fido Plan for $50 afew years back >i cancelled it because it took so long to surf the internet that it was freaking frustrating. Eventually, Rogers will come around. Probably when we’ll all be dead!!!

I posted about this on my blog:

http://acurrie.wordpress.com/2007/11/22/bell-browsing-bomb/

The plan is for mobile browsing only, but can be used with any Bell handset.

It’s easy to get confused, as even reps at the Bell World stores don’t necessarily give you the correct info…

I was at the bell store today, shopping around because I wanted a wifi phone running windows mobile, pretty much limiting me to HTC. After talking with the clerk, he says that unlimited internet is available for 7 bucks a month. At first I wasnt sure he meant the full internet, and instead maybe meant the mobile internet which is pretty much garbage. I asked him a few times to clarify, just to be sure, and he said , verbatim, the plan extends to all of our regular cell phones, in which case it is only the mobile internet, and our HTC touch, the only smartphone we have this offer on. It is the full internet, through internet explorer, with any page you want, streaming video, downloads, anything, with unlimited data. This will likely be available as a deal until Christmas. After that, I asked to make sure that once you get a contract its a permanent feature, and sure enough, you lock youself in for 3 years, you get this deal the entire time. Plus, it also works in American cities. The one apparent restriction is that he said you wont be able to hook up a laptop to use it as a modem, which I didnt really expect, but even then he might have been wrong. Needless to say, I’m buying this phone with a plan tomorrow, because my rogers contract expires in a week.

Another bonus, you buy the phone, you get a 2 gig microsd card, and a pair of bluetooth speakers they had on demo worth 80 bucks, they sounded great. These 2 combined basically make the phone free.

Heres the deal...... the mobile browser is available for $7 on ANY bell regular cell phone.  This excludes treos and crackberrys.  It also excludes the other htc devices.  The $7 mobile browser on all the cell phones is just a WAP browser.  EXCEPT the Touch.  On the touch its an HTML browser.  So mobile browser sucks on all the phones, but its full HTML on the HTC Touch.  U can tether it to a laptop but you then need an additional package of some sort.  I work at a Bell subsidiary store so direct ur questions to me.  And no, I’m not your typical retarded know-nothing bell rep.  I actually take pride in my job and being one of the most knowledgeable reps out there.  If i dont know the answer I’ll find it for you.  And yes adding a $15/month fun bundle will drop the phone $50 wherever u buy it not just ruwireless.ca or whatever that site was.  The $15 Fun Bundle gives u 200 text/pic/video msgs, call display, message centre, and unlimited mobile browser, which on the touch is an HTML browser.  The Music box is 79.99 and its actually pretty decent as it doubles as both speakers and a blue tooth headset.  Dunno how u got the 2 gig card, but bravo to u.  It does come standard with a 512 mb card, case and extra stylus.

JivestTurkey:
Earlier you posted that TELUS uses Bell’s towers in Ontario.  This isn’t quite correct.  Telus uses Bell’s towers in rural areas, but not in cities.  Telus has their own towers in almost all cities in Ontario and Quebec.  The two networks are actually separate, and a Telus user would only use a Bell tower in the absence of any Telus signal.

Here’s a website which shows all tower locations in Canada, and their respective operators:

Here’s a question - will this plan and phone work with Slingbox?

Just wondering…

Cheers!

ok from what i gather bell, telus took out the wifi option, forcing you to pay 7bucks for unlimited, where as rogers htc touch has wifi, so if im correct, isnt wifi supposed to be free when connected, so why should you pay any kind of fee for using internet, i know my labtop has wifi and i dont pay sent for connecting to the internet. also if you want an htc touch i know bell is offering it for free with a 3 year contract minimum plan has to be 45 dollars, wich i believe includes txt and unlimited internet browser, along with your basics.

Just an update… I’ve had the Bell $7 unlimited browsing plan for 6 months now. I have full internet capabilities, uploading/downloading, etc. and I don’t pay any extra. I don’t know what problem “math2007” experienced, but Bell’s $7 unlimited plan is truly unlimited, and I’m very happy with it.

I’ve been watching this deal since it broke in 2007.
Ive been with bell for 4 years and have been using $7/month unlimited browser (opera Mini) with a Samsung handset, but I’d like a touch or similar to really get the most out of my plan.

Anybody know if it will get better now that the iphone 3G is officially avail. in Canada July 11?  In other words, do I jump in with Bell as is or use the iphone as leverage to get something better out of Bell (i.e. discounted phone, more minutes, hardware credit whatever)

Maybe a Bell rep in the know can enlighten the rest of us who are tempted to make the jump to Rogers!

"Anybody know if it will get better now that the iPhone 3G is officially avail. in Canada July 11?”

That’s the dream, anyway: http://tinyurl.com/6ea2rp

You’ve actually got a better deal going with Bell and Opera Mini than anyone using Opera Mini on Fido—not only do they restrict the $7 all you eat surfing plan to one of their locked handsets, but you’re restricted to that phone’s built-in crappy browser too!
