Free Public Event: Doors Open Toronto May 24th and 25th

May 22 Update: This event happens this weekend, so if you're looking for something interesting to do this weekend in Toronto, you're in luck.

On May 24 and May 25, 2008, The Toronto Star presents the annual Doors Open Toronto event, where up to 150 venues of architectural, historic, cultural or social significance will be showcased. The event officially runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 24 and May 25 and admission is free! However, each building determines its own hours (and last admission times). Locations will set their own policies, but many will allow photography, so perhaps you can put a recently purchased new camera to use! New the 2008 event is a special focus on music. There will be special performances at a dozen of these venues organized in collaboration with Tafelmusik Orchestra and the Toronto Consort.

This is a great opportunity to see some fantastic locales in Toronto, and you'll be able to roam many locations that would charge admission or that are are normally closed to the public such as the unused "Lower Bay" TTC Subway station, unrestored buildings in the Distillery Historic District and more. Guides, tours, and more will be handled by each building.

For more information and a comprehensive list of venues and hours, check out the event listings at TheStar.com.
