Nevermind. I see now that there’s a tiny link at the bottom of the form if you’re a Canadian Subscriber. Look carefully, or you may miss it.

Darn. When I first clicked on the title I thought it said Free One-Year Subscription to MaximumPC Magazine.

Be careful if you need to use both lines for the Address field. I needed to use both as my address is long but on the confirmation it only confirmed the first line. So it may not be mailed to me!
Try to squeeze everything on the first line.

does it ask for your Credit Card info?
thanks

no it doesn’t ask for cc

Wonder if there are any fine prints indicating that the subscription will continue after 12 issues unless you call to cancel it??

Thanks for this!

fmf132: I don’t think that’s allowed by law. McAfee tried doing that with their AV updates, but got hit hard in court and fined.

as long as they don’t charge me afterward, I’m fine!

Does it come delivered in a brown paper wrapper?

To Breake01:
I used to subscribe to Maxim a few years back and I don’t recall it being wrapped. Just comes as a regular magazine but with your address sticker on it.

And on the 8th day God looked down upon his creation and said ‘blessed are my children, let their be free Maxim magazines for everyone’ and it was so.

i signed up last night and had the confirmation email waiting in my inbox. never been the biggest fan of maxim in the sense that i would go out and buy it. but hey, if it’s free i’ll enjoy it.

It’s not wrapped in brown paper because it’s not a smut magazine like National Geographic.
Maxim was an awesome magazine for the first 3 years of their run, but lately the quality has dropped significantly and their magazines are getting thinner and thinner (with less content and more ads)

I highly doubt this works. I tried with a random code that I made up and it still said congratulations. Extremely skeptical but hope to receive…

I just signed up too
A bit worried that after 12 months they may bill me, but when I think about it all I would have to say is: It wasn’t me that signed up
They didn’t ask for credit card info or any other info so I don’t see how they can bill after 12 months, anyone know for sure?
I just know that there is no such thing as a freebie and that there has to be some “catch’

The only strings I can think of is:
sending unsolicited mail to your inbox.
sending unsolicited mail to your mailbox.
sending/selling your name/addy to other people.
You’re unlikely to get billed against your will since you don’t need to provide any cc information. And if you have a generic email name, just make a name up - all you have to do is provide your proper address. Plus, if you do that (or even give an improper middle initial you can see who, if anyone, they sell their lists to).

I used to be a subscriber and my subscription is about to run out - but they only send me “last chance” notices. I haven’t had any unwanted contact or scammy business practices. They won’t auto-renew you.

They never make much money from subscriptions anyways. The advertising more than covers the cost of the magazine, employees, distribution, etc.
At least this is the case with the majority of magazines.

My guess is that in the ever-slowing print industry, they are simply trying to bolster their subscriber numbers to justify their advertising rates.

Whenever I order magazines, I put them under different alias’ just to see who sells my information.
You can get very creative.
Thanks for posting.

I figured my mailman stole it : )

Make that 3 no-shows for the London area. Maybe Canada Post in London loves to steal Maxim. I have friends in the surrounding area who signed up for this and DID receive theirs. I’ve launched an inquiry via the Maxim website to find out if I’m getting a magazine.

That sucks. Worked for me & buds; two north of Toronto, on Danforth, in Scarborough, north of Belleville, in Don Mills.
I once had 14 (from Air Miles) $20 Shell gas vouchers ripped off from the “secure” mail, guess real soft titty mags are alluring too.

My response from Maxim:
Due to overwhelming demand that exceeded our inventory, we do not have the inventory to fulfill all the orders we received.
We are offering a special discounted price for those customers that we could not accommodate. Please visit us at: maxim.com/actionunleashed to sign up.
Thank you for your interest in Maxim.

We received your order on July 07, 2009. It takes approximately 8-10 weeks to start receiving your magazines. Your subscription will start with the September 2009 issue and expire with the August 2010 issue.
We apologize that you did not receive the September 2009 issue. We extended your subscription to compensate for the issue you did not receive. Your new subscription expiration date is September 2010.
A review of your account shows that the October 2009 issue is currently en route to you. You should receive the October 2009 issue by October 17, 2009.
Thank you for subscribing to Maxim.
Sincerely,
Paul Smith

Just an FYI to anyone that subscribed - Maxim is selling your name to other companies. I received some direct mail advertisements this week from “Online Trading Academy” to attend a day trading workshop in Toronto.
Funny (annoying) thing is that never even received an issue of Maxim - I was one of the ones whose subscriptions got cancelled.
Whenever I sign up for something free that will be mailed to me, I always put the originating company name in my name (in this case, Maxim). So when I get mail from another company but where it’s addressed to me it says “Maxim” in there, I know that Maxim sold my name. Which is fair game if they actually gave me the free subscription. But totally unacceptable since they cancelled my subscription.

zzzoe - thank you for sharing with us.
Even though I signed up early, I don’t think I will be getting my Maxim subscription either. Smart of you to sign up with the originating company name for offering like this to track where your name & address ended up...I will be sure to do the same. Cheers…
