July 20 Update: We're happy to report that this offer appears to be good for another week!
Dell has refreshed a low price Vostro 200 desktop PC offer for $349. This time around, the default configuration has a faster processor (E2220 compared to E2160 last time) and a smaller hard drive (250GB to 160GB). The juicy part though, is that there are some very good CPU upgrade options available this time around. The base configuration is $349, but we highly prefer adding the Core 2 Duo E4600 Processor upgrade for $20 and having the following for $369:
- Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E4600 (2.40GHz, 2MB L2 Cache)
- Windows Vista Home Basic,SP1, with media,32 Edition
- 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz - 2DIMMs
- 160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
- Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
- Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100
- Single Drive: 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
- 1 Year Limited Warranty, Next Business Day Onsite Service and Tech Support
The most noteworthy upgrades are the already mentioned Core 2 Duo E4600 Processor for $20, and the Core 2 Duo E8300 Processor for $80. We think the E4600 upgrade for $20 is a no brainer, but the the E8300 processor also is very decent upgrade if you have higher performance needs. Other upgrades to think about are Dual optical drives for $10 and Microsoft Works Plus 2008 for $30. Shipping is free.
