FYI for those having a look at the 42” TV on Day 3 - that model only accepts 1080p source content over HDMI, NOT component. You’ll have to get their TX series television for 1080p over component.

Analog component (Y/Pb/Pr or Y/Cb/Cr) can only transmit up to 720p on any tv. It’s a copyright thing: 1080p can only by transmitted by digital means.

Not sure where you get the idea that 1080p can’t be transported over analog. My Xbox360 does 1080p over analog without issue. My upscaling DVD player outputs 1080p over component without issue. I’ve worked with numerous panels that accept 1080p over component without issue.

Hehe DS deal is still up. Even though it’s nice colour, but no thanks to the game bundle. Just plain DS and I will get my own rom cart.
*remembring that $99 DS deal which Dell had trouble fulfilling*

i returned mine (got it at $499 too), the quality was good but the delay was terible in wondows, felt like the mouse was lagging badly, and yes it was revision A01
I might get the TN panel at $274 today....

I don’t find I have any mouse lag while using it and I’m just using it on VGA connector still. I use windows xp and really it shouldn’t affect mouse lag!

get a TN panel and have it next to you on dual screen, put a windows between the screen and go up and down, see how the TN panel actuall reproduce your mouse movement and the 2408WFP is trying to keep up
Very bad for gaming too, you always have to think ahead, where is my mouse gonna be in 0.2s :-(
Money back Dell please, thanks
I’ll wait for a good and reactive panel

The UPS looks to be a Dell branded APC Smart-UPS 1500VA. If so, it’s a nice UPS - 23 minutes runtime at 490W (Standard workstation / server typical usage), 7 minutes at 980W. Most home PC’s run at 300W, 50W for a 17” LCD (Do NOT connect a printer or speakers to a battery! Surge suppression, yes, but not the battery)
Very good price, especially when you remember it’s free ground shipping (The UPS weighs 27 KG shipped)
16GB Memory key - Canadacomputers.com has ‘em for $73 - $10 instant rebate - $10 MIR = $53 (Vs Dell’s $60)

Yes, the UPS is a very hot item amongst us reef aquarium addicts, almost every time Dell post this UPS, a dozen of us immediately jump on it.
Given that any decent sized reef aquarium can easily be $2000 - 5000, it is a good investment. We have reefers that ran 12W water movement device for 16 hours.

Just curious - I know not to plug laser printers into a UPS, but speakers? Is there any other reason then just because they are unnecessary and would waste power? That’s a new one on me, and enquiring mind wants to know!
I only plug in essentials (monitor, desktop, external hard drive) and leave out the rest (printers, scanners). Almost forgot I also have my router UPSed too.

It’s more of a power consumption / battery life thing. If you’re listening to music, and the power goes out, would you really want to continue to listen to music at the sake of extended battery life?
Most people who have small desktop speakers (Say 50W or less) shouldn’t be too bad, but once you start getting into better speakers (And more people who buy a 1500VA battery would have them), 200W+ speakers will draw a fair bit of current (Say… 200 Watts worth?) and consume battery.
Typically for a good UPS situation, only plug the essentials in - PC, Laptop, One monitor (if running dual-head), Router (Pain in the butt to replace), , phone equipment (Base for portable or powered phone wall-wart, and VOIP adaptor), and MAYBE a lamp (Suggested only if running CFL or LED based lighting). This will give you some emergency light (if at night), phone capabilities (if you need to call someone to get power restored), and save your computer from failure.
Too many people assume that UPS = High-priced power-strip. This UPS is a high-end workstation, or server-grade UPS, primarily used for 1 Server + 1 Monitor. There is no Surge Protection Only side like most sub-$200 UPS’s will provide. On better models, like this one, the wall powers the battery, the battery powers your devices. Overextend the battery or circuitry (like a printer), and you risk damaging the UPS and potentially all connected equipment.

Thanks TrevOrKev, that’s what I thought. Bascially, it comes down to common sense - only plug in what you need to give yourself the longest time possible to shut down safely without loss of data. Even if done automatically, it still means little worries of recharge time when the power comes back on.
Good explanation for anyone unclear on UPSs, thanks for that. I actually have a few of the APC Smart UPS 1600 (work replaced them with rack mounts after a merger) and was lucky enough to be given a few. They are also excellent line conditioners.
And yet still, every time I see this UPS on sale at Dell for $199, I want to buy 10 more. I love these things so much, they perform so well.
IMO, one cannot overestimate the importance of a UPS. Just like a good backup strategy.

Anyone know how good dell is at honoring purchases of a product AFTER it’s been sold out?
I added the Westinghouse to my cart earlier and actually placed the order just now when it was clearly sold out on the web site. Everything went through okay though

Anyone think the Magnasonic portable dvd is any good? Big screen, decent price, lithium polymer battery...but Magnasonic is not known for being much of f brand…

you still watch DVD ?
time to move on to compressed movie and watch on a regular laptop or netbook like the Asus EEE
DVD player makes no sense unless you are a DVD freak
