Cineplex Entertainment 2008 Holiday Gift Pack Now $28.80

January 29 Update: This is still in stock for $28 and we think it would make a great add-on for a Valentine's Day gift -- you'll be able to have date nights with your loved one for less. While some of the lesser coupons may no longer be valid, the the bulk of the value in this gift pack is in the four admission tickets (valid until October 31, 2010). With movie admissions running about $13 apiece at the box office, four admissions for $28 is still a good deal.
January 11 Update: Price drop down to $28.80. Last year it was that price for just 2 days, this time it's supposed on end on January 16th so this might be the last of them.
December 23 Update: Great news, all -- The Cineplex Gift Pack can now be ordered from The Bay, ordered from Home Outfitters or ordered from Zellers -- and shipped to-store for free! Free, to-store shipping was previously not available on this item!

Am i the only one underwhelmed by these gift packs.

4 Cineplex admissions - for $32 is the basic offer. That’s $8 per ticket.  Well, you can get better prices than that with special deals you see occasionally with CAA etc.

$10 off HBC on a purchase of $50.  Yeah, right.  HBC, what that stand for? High Big Charges?.

$10 off Chapters on a purch of $50.  I get to take $10 off the high prices compared to amazon.ca?  Maybe i brain dead and not notice this.

Save $5 on chooseyoursongs.com.  It cost me $10 in time to clicky your little website.  I chooseyourbankruptcy.com

Buy one get one free regular Cineplex Snax Microwave Popcorn. What snax?

Free regular maltesers with purchase of large popcorn and drink.  What’s that?

Free regular soft drink with purchase of nachos. Some water with sugar to sprinkle on the nacho. Thank you sir.

What I want would be buy one nachos, get the regular soft drink, use that for the maltesers. Push the button on the far wall. Wait for the secret passage to open. Go past the flying knives and get the maltesers. That sound reasonable.

etc.

Sincerely,

Free Regular bargain hunter.

Oop in previous comment, I already got maltesers with the regular soft drink. So if i go by the flying knives, it obvious i want regular Snax Microwave Popcorn not the maltesers which i already have.

You have to add the promo code ZFREESHIP on the first page of the checkout to get free shipping for over $100.  It doesn’t do it automatically.

Rebel_Sell; you really need a life...taking all that time to bash something when you could of at the very least not say anything out of respect for the OP for taking time out and letting us know about it, regardless of your thoughts.

Purchased mine @ http://www.conciergeconnection.com, only $35.95 (taxes included) and shipping is only $1.95.

ott_wrench

they seem to have pulled a few things from last year’s pack. i believe it included a free pass on your birthday as well and the snack coupons didn’t expire as quickly.

I’m starting to think the Costco movie passes are a better deal.

thoughts?

Posted November 8, 2008 @ 10:49am

cyder

last year did it advertise the free birthday pass? I know it came with it but I dont think it advertised the fact.

either way if you were planning on getting $50 worth of stuff at HBC and chapters then the 4 passes are 12$ for 4 if you are getting the free shipping

Posted November 8, 2008 @ 8:18pm

Rebel_Sell

c7ronaldo, you are right.  I should not have done that. I have no life.

Also I have no Snax.

I think if you were to go on “cheap” night you’d get four admissions for ~$16?  And as for the food, really save your teeth and health! But as for giving these as gifts, what are the “costco movie packages” mentioned above by ott_wrench? Can anyone help me out?  Cheers in advance smile

Posted November 11, 2008 @ 9:34pm

banhmich

I think the costco packages are better if you like to get snacks every time you go to the movies.  THe packages comes with 2 regular adult admissions and a regular popcorn and one (maybe two - can’t remember offhand) regular drinks for $22.99 + tax.  If you figure a regular adult admission costs $11+, it’s like you’re getting the popcorn/drinks for free.

If you don’t get snacks regularly at the movies, then the costco packages aren’t worth it.

I appreciate critiques of deals.  A lot of time I am not sure if it truly is a good deal.  When critiques are offered, it gives a terrific perspective.

Does anyone know if the Chapters $10 coupon is good for online purchases or just in-store?

Posted November 12, 2008 @ 12:17pm

I agree with C7Ronaldo.  RFD is doing us many favours, and most of them are worth while knowing about.  Thanks RFD’s.

Posted November 12, 2008 @ 12:33pm

ott-wrench.  Remember this year you have 1000 Scene points with this and I beleive that this is enough for a free movie.  So it’s actually better because you don’t have to wait for your birthday.  And if it’s not enough you can register and join SCENE and get 1000 free points and that will surely be enough for a free movie (maybe 2).

Posted November 12, 2008 @ 12:36pm

chead

So it looks like they took away the FREE SHIPPING to a HBC store near you???  Can anyone verify that for me please. Thanks

Posted November 12, 2008 @ 12:45pm

banhmich

Chead, I don’t think the Scene points are guaranteed.  The description says there 1000’s of points “to be won”...

But ya, 1000 points would equate to 1 free ticket.

Last year I ordered this around this time of the year through HBC.com intending to give it as a Christmas gift and they never sent them. When I called I was told they had been sent and it keep waiting.

Come the New Year I still hadn’t received them at which point I called again. This time I was told they couldn’t refund my money because I could be lying.

After many phone calls and much hassle they finally sent me it in February. Yes, February after half the coupons had expired.

I won’t be buying this again. I don’t think it’s a very good deal to begin with and if you have problems you’ll only reach rude customer service agents.

Also, in case you’re thinking maybe I was a jerk on the phone and that’s why I got the runaround, well that’s not the case at all. I was polite with every call because I know the person I’m talking to is just a rep and not the one making the rules, but it doesn’t excuse their attitude (eg. telling me I might be a liar).

Just something for everyone to think about.

Posted November 25, 2008 @ 4:21pm

danwood99

Just a thought....if you’re giving this for Christmas, the coupons are really only good for a month (’til the end of January.)

Posted November 25, 2008 @ 4:46pm

rashipoo

yeah it’s not a great deal by any means and trust me i’d buy it if it was even if i had no u$e?! <G>

Posted November 25, 2008 @ 5:29pm

Heather_W

I bought this last year, it came with free admission on your b-day, mine is December 13 so it worked out well and 1000 free pts so I actually signed up for 2 scene cards for me, 2 for my fiancé and got 4 free movies (because you needed the UPC on the back of the movie pass so the max was 4). I used the $10 coupon at the Bay on Mac foundation that I buy once a year because its overpriced. If anyone wants to sell me their coupon for $1 I’ll buy it! lol! In the end, I’m not going to buy this, this year if all the good stuff I just mentioned is not included.

The deal is cheaper on the Cineplex site...$30

You do not automatically receive 1000 points if you buy this gift package, notice it says:
-1,000’s of SCENE points to be won

I looked up the details here:
https://www.scene.ca/PromoDetails.aspx

This package is definitely not as good as last year’s.

Posted November 27, 2008 @ 4:58pm

zoee

no, its not that great of a deal but i bought it for myself anyways. Regular movies at my local theatre costs $11.50, so even just using the 4 movie passes saves me $14 (and they dont expire until the end of 2010). I’ll probably only use those and the free popcorn. I don’t know about giving this gift pack as a gift though.. I don’t know how I would feel about giving someone coupons for Christmas.

I think its a pretty good deal, we have used them in the past.  They are an easy gift for people you know that need a night out.  I was just at Cineplex.com for $30.  Same package, with free shipping too!

Posted November 30, 2008 @ 8:47am

jackass_ca

Sorry, just tried to checkout at cineplex and shipping is minimum $2.62 for me, so Zellers is a better deal!

Posted November 30, 2008 @ 9:21am

jackass_ca

Okay, last post on the subject hopefully.  Zellers Freeship is only over $100.  Other than that, it is like $6.00 to my home, plus they charge tax on both the shipping and the cards.  At Cineplex, they only charge GST on the shipping.  No tax on the giftcards, as that is what they are, giftcards… the amount on the card is all that the user can use, they can’t use the $30, plus taxes… Zellers has worked themselves out a convenient scam.  Even free shipping to the store causes this to be higher with PST and GST charged on the $32.  Cineplex offers the package for $30.  But I just had a thought, of course, after I checked out!  The Cineplex deal, is a $30 giftcard, which means if the movie is $12 per person or something, you get 2 and a half passes, not 4, whereas Zellers, for the $32, you get 4 actual paper passes (with expiry though, whereas a giftcard doesn’t expire), and then you get all the same freebies… So, which is a better deal?  Not sure… I know, I am stuck with the Cineplex one now!  But we did have 2 passes that we gave away last year, as they were going to expire, from the Zellers promo.

Distrust

I am an employee at Cineplex:

This is a SCAM.

A movie pass (this one is blue, with the Cineplex logo on it) can be bought from places such as Costco, CAA(as a membership “discount” bs) and universities. UofT, Ryerson,York all offer discount “movie passes” at their student services. What happens if that head office of Cineplex sells to Costco movie passes in bulk at a discounted rate. Costco then resells them in a cheaper rate to their customers.

At Cineplex, we call them CNOs which stand for Cineplex Night Out. I believe they sell them at Costco, Universities for $7? (Can someone clarify? I’ve never purchased one since I work there)

The junk coupons from Chapters etc… that are offered along with the 4 movie passes are ACTUALLY the Holiday Gift Packs that Cineplex offers. That deal is: with a purchase of a $30 gift card, a coupon package worth $70(The forementioned coupons...which is worth nothing btw...) is given out.

Now the werid thing is… since the movie passes only cost $7 each. 7x4=28 and the coupons are FREE. (Yes, they literally sit at the table and no one in management cares about them.) These sellers are actually PROFITTING from this deal AT YOUR EXPENSE.

They probably stole the coupons.

Either way, the fact remains: it’s not a deal!

Posted December 1, 2008 @ 11:08pm

adamm

well i partially agree with you distrust. While the coupons may be useless to the managers and they don’t care about them, they are still sitting at a table in the managers office where most ppl cannot get them.

I don’t see how a big company like Zellers would steal coupons. They probably have a deal with cineplex like costco.

hawk99

I ordered this a month ago and ship to store was free.

Also, the $30 cineplex.com deal is not a better deal since it’s only a gift card. This package is 4 actual movie passes whereas with the $30 gift card you couldn’t even get 3 movie tickets.

Posted December 23, 2008 @ 12:27pm

writetosfa

I ordered it ship to store for free on Dec 15 and I am still waiting for it to arrive at the store - if it doesn’t arrive by tomorrow that will really suck as its a Christmas gift!

Posted December 23, 2008 @ 4:41pm

cyberhunter

I ordered mine 2 weeks ago on HBC.com and had it shipped to Home Outtfitter near my house which is free of charge for sure. I’m actually quite happy that I was able to pick up the package 3 days later and this is definitely a better deal than the $30 cineplex.com one cos that one is only a gift card VS 4 actual movie passes.

You maybe able to get a better deal for the movie passes from certain big companies, but it’s still a great x’mas gift for most people tho.

Anyone knows if there is an expiry date for the movies admission ticket?

Where can I find better deals if I am only interested in getting cheap movie tickets?

I actually went into my local caa branch and bought four of these before christmas - no waiting, etc.  I think they were about $32 with taxes ( don’t remember the exact amount), don’t know if they still have them or not or if they would be further discounted.  If you have CAA, just go there

Posted January 14, 2009 @ 9:04am

widder4

why do you keep on promoting this package??? Most of the coupons expire this Saturday and if you live in Atlantic Canada you can’t use the movie passes either, the closest Cineplex theatre is in Quebec!!!

Posted January 29, 2009 @ 4:22pm

Kate M

The bulk of the value in this gift pack is in the four admission tickets (which are valid until October 31, 2010). With movie admissions running about $13 a piece at the box office, four admissions for $28 is a great deal.

Posted January 29, 2009 @ 5:16pm

cdfchung

How much to see a movie? $12.50. How much if you use the coupon? $7.56. Take your pick! It’s a deal!
