be very carefull with BMO..especially with this student plan. I joined the plan years ago (at that time, they didn’t offer 1 year free after graduation). During the sign-up, they never told me that I had to provide proof of course registrations every semester / year. I hardly used the account, left my $100 some there for about few years. They never sent me any statement . When I decided to close my account, I found out that I owed them money due to the monthly fee that they had been deducting from my account for several months!!!

My 2 cents...just go with PC financial or Coast Capital credit union..they’re always free...!!!

Also, if you are a mature student you don’t qualify. I tried to sign up a few months ago, but because I’m not in my late teens or early twenties, my birth year was not an allowable entry for the rep I was talking to on the phone.

If you’re in BC, try Vancity. They have a free everything account for people 25 and under. You do not have to be a student.

Scotiabank doesnt even ask if I’m still a student. I haven’t been a student for years!
I think the reason why is because they code their Student account “Powerchequing”... so I think the tellers think I have a regular checking account…
