Looks like they are desperate for some cash infusion to help their financial situation. You will be stranded if GM goes bankrupt by the end of year (predicted by “some” analysists).

I am not a fan of american cars or cars made in NA.

Although it’s a Pontiac, it really is a rebranded Daewoo vehicle… just like the Chevy Aveo and Suzuki Swift.... not made in NA.

I am not sure that advertising its really a Daewoo is going to boost sales.  GM is basically squarely targeting the Hyundai Accent.  The new generation of Wave and Aveo are an improvement over the previous generation in many respects.  Canadian Driver did a nice test drive article:

I wonder if you could apply an employee discount to this offer also. 10,000 out the door for a brand new car.I would probably rather walk then drive one of these daewoos though.

Bleah - an improvement on a bottom of the line vehicle still leaves it bottom of the line.

I drive a 2007 wave as a company vehicle. After driving it in city (tolerable but crap turnng radius) and long highway trips (literally painful), I personally would have picked any other vehicle for a few dollars more.
The fuel economy numbers GM quotes are pie in the sky compared to real world results, even on long hauls at optimal speeds.

You get what you pay for - unless its a big 3 then add - maybe if you are lucky

@Thrudd

It is still an entry level vehicle.  Though the fuel economy numbers are better in this model year, they still fall short of the Fit and the Yaris.  Though with that sort of price tag the life cycle cost to run the vehicle are probably pretty low.

The last generation of Wave/Aveo had a pretty primitive engine design, this one stole a 1.6L Eco Tech from GM’s European parts bin.  It makes the car quieter on the highway and improves the fuel economy quite a bit.

The only complaint I picked up on in the test drive article was that the manual shifter didn’t have well defined gates or a good shift action.  I test drove a 2006 Wave a couple years ago and the poor shift feel was principally why I stopped considering the car.

I think it’s safe to say most auto enthusiasts or auto journalists would recommend the Hyundai Accent over the Wave. I’m not likely to ever buy a GM either, but they must be commended for dropping their price. Now do it on all your cars, GM! Hopefully their prices will be w/in 3% of the US prices damn soon, or else the company as a whole is likely going to die far sooner rather than later. Mark...my...word.

I have owned a 1999 and 2001 Accent and a 2004 Aveo (Wave).  The Accents were an awesome car for entry level, seemed very heavy duty and never seen the garage.
The Aveo was in the garage 26 TIMES for everything from engine overhauls, seat belt issues, tires, oil leaks etc...after going to court with GM they were forced to take the car back because they were not fulfilling their contractual obligations by not providing worthy/reliable transportation in return for my payment.  I was a faithful GM guy and have owned no less than 20 GM products but with every one the quality has gotten worse, it is also reflected in the trade value of their cars - no more GM’s for me.
Have owned Nissans for 3 years now and I must say these things will never wear out.
