Prius is such a scam. Buy an economy car and save your money. It still takes way too long to make up the $7000-8000 premium you pay from gas saving.

i agree that the price for prius is really really high… but it’s about saving the environment than about saving gas…

but if you can buy a Yaris, or, say, a Jetta diesel that’s also easy on the environment and costs 1000s less, why buy the Prius?

i’m torn- we need to be environmentally friendly, but not sure the Prius is.  it’s complicated, uses a lot of resources to build it, and recycling it (esp batteries) at the end of its life may not be that easy on the environment.

all the green idiots are going to cry when they have to pay big bucks for new batts for the car.

being green is good. being poor is bad.

green = poor

all the corporations have redesigned themselves to rip off all the green thinking goofs.

No, the Prius is more polluting to produce thanks to the batteries, and once they are dead, they have to be discarded in a safe way = more pollution to do so, you can’t just bury it in the local dig.
You can get a civic for 10k less, really it’d take a lot of time to recoup that.

yes, this prius ad is a scam. you can buy it for $21,500 in the U.S. while in Canada they sell it for $27,600 which is way too expensive even though they said it’s “price cut”.
bull #### !

vjnet, Can you post a link please?

How do you figure it,s too expensive? It is almost as roomy as the Camry, bigger inside than a Passatand under responsible acceleration gets about 60 miles to our gallon both in city and highway and with the $4000.00 governtment rebates nothing comes close. Also fully loaded not naked like civic or jetta, and forget about the suitcase sized Yaris.

By the way, You’re right about being overpriced based on USA prices, especially considering fact that it’s imported from Japan. Come on Toyota, $6000.00 cheaper in the states with equal value dollar even after price decrease. Shame on You.

i think the 10 dollar guy is bigger scam than the prius trying to sell downloaded books to make money.

So true, moeliash.

As for vjnet - he’s either scamming or if not, doing something illegal in a highly visible place.

In canada it sells with some addons (US option A package). The price of the similar car in US comes up to 24170/= USD. Considering the Govt rebate of 4k, its not a bad price

Posted July 16, 2008 @ 10:23am

moeliash

FYI, Govt rebate for Prius is only 2k and not 4k.

Posted July 17, 2008 @ 4:42pm

aka_coolguy2

Nope its 4k.

2k=Federal
2k= Provincial

Ontario and BC are offering it...dont know about your province

Posted July 17, 2008 @ 6:49pm

moeliash

Govt (i.e. Federal) rebate is 2K and Provincial rebate is another 2k, so makes it total 4k.

The base price in the U.S. is $21,500 and not $24,170, please see: http://www.toyota.com/prius-hybrid/trims-prices.html

and in Canada is $27,600, the difference is approx. $6,100 which still more expensive.

aka_coolguy2

I guess for you “Govt” only means Federal and Provincial Govt is not a Govt

The base model in US is different then the base model in Canada (read my original comment properly!!) . Go to the same website and build Prius with option A package. look at the price and compare its features with the base model in Canada.

If you still disagree, be my guest. You are free to have your own opinion
