    • by the way, i checked Ottawa-Montreal and if you book online 4 days in advance, it's $29-33 +tax regularly (one way) versus $32 (this presale). even for business class, it's $72 vs $66 (this presale).

    • Do trains to NYC ever go on sale?
Indeed, the Amtrack train from Montreal to NYC went on sale earlier this spring (60% off), and my wife and I partook. It's nice that it ends at Penn station -- the train itself is comfortable and has wi-fi in the cafe car.

For a trip that has been touted as one of the most scenic in the Eastern United States, though, I didn't find it exceedingly scenic. Perhaps I've been spoiled with trains in Western Canada.

    • I hardly ever see Amtrak to NYC from Toronto go on Sale. I'm guessing the Montreal - NYC route is direct since you don't have to change trains? Anyway, Via Rail is finally becoming a bit more affordable with their escape pricing plan. Just a few more $$ than Greyhound or Megabus from Toronto --> Ottawa.

    • It's not that much a deal for the economy class as the "Escape Web only" (that is not refundable or exchangeable at all).

But thanks as last week I only bought my ticket from Montreal to Toronto. Now at least if the Rogers Cup gets delayed for a day I won't lose entirely my 80$ ticket.

Also add the code 710824 (enterprise) for aditional saving. Anyone know if they really verify this stuff ?

    • Via Rail is a very underrated travel resource. Every time I take Via Rail I find myself asking why I do not use this service more. Great deal and will be purchasing!

    • I'm curious re: darkman007e's post
Does VIA verify the employee codes? Because it brings the $62.20 / one way (10% off)

Also, you can use code 710824 for 12% off

I want to book, but I don't want to get caught at the terminal with them saying "you need a corp pass"
      Anybody have any insight?

apparently on the retailmenot site a user said that when you pickup the tickets you will be asked to show your pass/id or you lose the discount. Anyone else able to verify?

edit: seems like a YMMV they may let you go or they might even make you pay the difference on the spot.

    • I went ahead and purchased, using the 12% off code (of course)
Noticed that the price went from $69 to $73 (T.O. to MTL) in a matter of 20 min (when booking), but no biggie.

The confirmation allows me to print my ticket at a kiosk, so I'm hoping I can get through it w/o having to scan an employee badge or anything. The Via site does (obviously) state that you must carry a corporate ID when using a code, but still unconfirmed whether they enforce that or not.

They most certainly enfoce these codes. However, with the scan at kiosk option available you won't have problems getting you ticket, but the conductor on the train taking your tickets MAY ask to see you ID and if you don't have it will proceed with the consequences (I believe your ticket could become invalid by the terms you agreed to when purchasing the ticket - but they would have to be having a REALLY bad day to go that far).
      Good luck getting through ok.
