VIA Rail: 50% off Adult Economy Class Fares in Windsor-Quebec Corridor (Travel by May 31)

Via Rail: 50% off Adult Economy Class
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

If you're traveling home after your university/college exams, planning to visit loved ones, or just looking to get away for a mini-vacation this spring, look no further than this VIA Rail sale. Right now, you can get 50% off the adult regular fare or 15% off the best available fare in business class for the Windsor-Quebec corridor.

Sample one-way economy fares show $69 for the Toronto-Montreal route, $31 for Toronto-London, and $41 for Montreal-Quebec City. Easter weekend appears to be sold out in this fare class, however.

To take advantage of these reduced fares, you will need to book by March 27, and travel must take place by May 31, 2012. The number of seats available in this offer is limited, so book sooner rather than later to avoid missing out. Advance purchase is required (three days in advance for economy class, up to three days in advance for business class).

There are no additional discounts for seniors or youth, and this offer is only applicable to new bookings.

    • Via never fails to surprise me with their exhorbitant prices. A train from Ottawa to Montreal, which is a 2 hour drive, with the sale and the best discount, comes to $250 for 2 adults and 2 young kids. That strikes me as expensive when the alternative is 1/2 a tank of gas for the car.

      That's weird... it's showing me $30 + tax for 1 adult.

The sale is kind of sneaky though because it adds the "no cancellation/exchange" conditions to sale tickets, and applies 50% off to the regular price (full fare, not the cheap fares). If you book in advance, regular "no cancellation/exchange" tickets are pretty much 50% off anyway.

Not everyone have a car....I guess you should compare that to car rental plus gas.

Checking Enterprise rent a car for prices a 3 day rental would be $109 for intermediate sized sedan, this is without looking for a deal or using a weekend discount. Then let's say $60 for a full tank of gas. Seems car rental would be cheaper and more convenient. Hard to justify such high prices for via.

While you are at it, maybe you should check the prices for a chauffeur as well then? Not trying to start a keyboard war, but let's not try to compare apples to oranges... eating out for dinner vs. making your own supper buying ingredients at the supermarket vs. making your own supper growing your own vegetables.... to each their own.

That said.... trains here are so much more expensive then trains in Europe but I guess they can justify for high prices as long as enough people are willing to pay for it.

then for via rail tack on taxi's and or rental cars when you arrive to get to exactly where you are going... via rail is very expensive. taking/renting a car is a much better option.
