    • Booked tickets from Vancouver to Portland for the Family Day long weekend. The website isn't the best when it comes to displaying the deal. I had to book the trip in segments in order to take advantage of the deal. It was worth the extra effort, though, because it saved me around $100.

I am going to the West Coast soon and was looking at options to get to Vancouver.
      Found this link: http://www.straight.com/blogra/train...-about-scenery

Seats are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis when you line up for a boarding pass at the station (even if you have an e-ticket). If you’re travelling for the views, make sure you arrive at the station very early and ask for a seat on the water side of the train. That’s the right side going south, and the left side going north. Most seats face forward, but there are several pairs that face each other, which are usually allotted to foursomes. If it’s important that you don’t face backward, tell the person assigning your seat.

If your returning trip is March 7 or earlier it will be the same price as the departing trip.

    • Unfortunately their best fares seem sold out on the high-demand weekend trips. Dang. Will have to catch it next time.

    • We took the Cascades last summer from Seattle to Portland and it was quite enjoyable. Some of the trip is waterfront, so nice scenery. Definately want to do this again.

    • If you want incredible scenery (especially on a sunny day) albeit not at those prices, check out the Rocky Mountaineer. They currently have B.C. residents specials.

    • If you're planning on traveling in the near future, keep in mind that the line between Everett and Seattle has only been operational ONE day since american thanksgiving in November... It keeps getting closed due to mudslides. At the moment, the entire trip from Vancouver to Seattle is shut down until at least tomorrow, and passengers are being bussed instead.
