About 3 weeks ago I got caught in the baggage handlers wildcat strike, and in the end they put me on a train...A TRAIN from Halifax to Toronto. Customer service never returned my requests for a refund.
Last week, all the pilots simultaneously called in sick on Friday.
We had our wedding flights booked out of Toronto, and moved all our business to Westjet to avoid not getting there.
I wouldn't suggest flying Air Canada at any price until they settle the labour trouble. You really are gambling on whether or not you'll get where you're going.
And Air Canada doesn't offer price protection (with the possible exception if the price drops on the same day you bought it).
Depending on the type of ticket you bought, you may be able to cancel or change it for a fee and then buy the new cheaper tickets. However, the fee for canceling or changing can often be quite high and will often mean this isn't worthwhile.
Seriously though, the only out with AC is to pay the cancellation fee but the cancellation fees may be more than the savings you would have gained.
I *love* Montreal!
edit: waiting for westjet dealmatch!
I haven't checked a bag in 4 years. AC baggage handlers are the worst in north America. The only reason west jet is gaining traction is because they don't have as many unions.
At the end of the day AC is our National carrier and the Star alliance is our access to the world. Get rid of the unions and AC will be profitable again. Ps good deals on this promo.
Only thing AC has over westjet is more destinations.
