BB USA has the 60" for $1499 so $1699 at FS today is not a bad deal for that size. I hate paying much more than the USA price for anything.
I have the exact same thing going on with my VT25 right now after about 26 months. Luckily I bought a 4 year extended warranty, just haven't had time to take it in yet. I can get it to turn on occasionally if I keep unplugging it and turning it back on, but it takes up to like 50 tries to get it to turn on once.
We're talking a 500$ difference here... it's tempting still.

I've seen them offer this price before, so it's not a super hot deal, but it's an excellent price for the 60ST60. I'm not sure if BB would PM, but you could give it a shot to save another $20.
(or similarly the 60" non-3D Panasonic plasma)
Both Plasma and LCD are pretty much at their peak in terms of further developing their respective technology. Panasonic is the king of Plasmas, but they are far, far behind the competition when it comes to LCD. Instead of getting out of the Plasma business, they might just shift their R&D focus to OLED and LCD until OLED becomes affordable, then stop producing Plasmas (and maybe even LCDs). I'm sure the other big brands (Samsung, LG) will do something similar. But ya, the future for PDP is not good.
I'm pretty sure Panasonic has moved their assembling to their Mexico plant a while ago. Quality is generally still better than LG or Samsung IMO.
I love my panasonic plasma. Great picture quality and bang for the buck.
Been looking for a good deal on the 60ST60. I realize this isn't the thread to be asking, put since it's popped up again, any suggestions as to how much I should be looking to pay?
My Panny did get repaired...7 blinking lights...1 large board was successfully replaced by East Beaver Electronics (Richmond Hill). Total cost for repair at home was about $530. I received a claims cheque from Allianz (MBNA smart mastercard) for $510~ The claim process took about 4 weeks.
Everything is good....
Just a reminder again...pay all of the electronic item on a doubled ext. warranty credit card and do not use gift cards....or buy cheap ext warranties like Costco provides.
Everything is good...except the CSR at Panasonic that told me too bad so sad.
Maybe cheap ones...Any newer high end LCD I have looked at you can watch from almost all angles.
power consumption on a plasma has always been discussed...the new generation ones didnt even "meow" on my hydro bill.
...only wish that Panasonic had a better warranty >.<
I like plasma TV's, but I have no complaints about the viewing angle on my LCD
I can look at my plasma from as close to 90 degrees as I can get while still seeing the TV, and still make out everything on it.
I would say on paper a plasma last longer based on that.
Not always true. The panasonic TH-50PH30U which is plasma has a power consumption of 245W. The TH-47LF5U is 300W.
So there you go, a plasma with better power consumption than a LCD, and the plasma is bigger! This is one example of course. On average plasmas would take more. Now throw in LED, such as panasonics 50 inch TH-50LRU60U and you get 125W which is a lot lower.
But ya, power draw will always be an 'issue' with plasmas, and they will heat up a small room. That said, plasmas generally have better PQ and offer better bang for buck, so any additional money you spend on your bills will be saved in your initial purchase.
And people in this thread need to stop thinking plasmas have any reliability issues because they don't... they're just as reliable as LCDs. The brand you buy will determine the reliability more so than the technology.
1299.99 - 120 = 1179.99 - 12 = $1167.99 and this way if you have any issues you can do a return in store.
