McDonalds

McDonald's: $1 Fountain Drinks & Iced Coffee (Starts April 24)

McDonald's Dollar Drink Days
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

Forum member rvcupcake spotted this first! McDonald's is resurrecting their Dollar Drink Days promotion for another year starting April 24.

All summer long, any size soft drink and small/medium size ice coffee will be $1 (plus tax, of course). In past years, this promotion has run from April through until the beginning of September.

To find your nearest McDonald's location, use their restaurant locator.

    • McDonald's is probably the most elaborate Coca Cola sales operation on the planet.

I'm sure most of you know that a fountain drink only costs about 12 cents. You might not know the psychology behind this deal, which is pitched to snare price sensitive consumers from other chains. The company's most profitable customers order Bistro meals and the traditional sandwich meals. The $1 discounted pop doesn't apply to those purchases so McDs protects its margins.

      As for the cheapskates:

      1. A $1 drink sale on its own takes sales from convenience stores and Timmy's. It doesn't cut into McD's bottom line.
      2. If the company can get you to step into their restaurant because of the $1 drink special, there's a good chance they'll upsell an item or two from the value menu. That cheap drink will end up costing you $4 or $5.

Since this is Red Flag Deals: The cheapest option in the summer is to buy 12 packs at the supermarket when they're on sale and keep them in a cooler. You'll pay about 30 cents a can and avoid the temptation to waste $1.39 on a bun with bone scrapings in the middle.

The cup costs more than the drink they put in it.

But yeah, you are absolutely right. Is this surprising though? Why do companies do promotions? They do it to bring in business, so that they can make money.

No, the healthier and cheaper alternative is to bring and drink water. Straight out of the tap.

    • Obviously it's cheaper to bring a drink from home, but $1 soft drinks is great if you're out somewhere, it's cheaper than what convenience stores charge for a can.

But water from your tap costs you money in the form of a water bill.
True RFDers would drink from the nearest stream or ditch.
