The Philips Wake-up Light uses a combination of light and sound to wake you in a more natural way than traditional alarm clocks -- light gradually increases within 30 minutes until your room is filled with bright yellow light to mimic sunrise. This process stimulates your body to wake up naturally and gives you more energy to start your day. This Wake-up light also has favourable reviews on Costco.ca, with an average rating of 4.2/5 from over 30 users. Other features include:
- Sunrise simulation wakes you up more naturally and improves your mood in the morning
- Sunset simulation helps prepare your body to fall asleep by gradually decreasing light and sound to your set duration
- 20 brightness intensities can be personalized and set up to 300 lux
- Three different natural wake up sounds, including bird songs, birds in the forest and zen garden
- Built-in FM radio lets you wake up with your favorite radio show
- Independent research shows that 92% of Philips Wake-up Light users find it is easier to get out of bed

View allI agree that the controls can be confusing, given that there are so many settings. I always hit the wrong side buttons, but then I put a half-sphere sticker on the buttons I use most and it helped. This tactility fixed the problem.
Aside from that, there are some great advantages to the controls. Rocking it snoozes the alarm; it's simple when you're half awake, and it's my favorite feature.
I'm a big fan of mine, just got it a little while ago

Which is too bad when they offer a long return period because people will just return it instead of getting price match. You can try next time you're in but I am pretty sure they will deny the request.
- Use a 7" or 8" tablet and run an app like "Gentle Wakeup - Alarm Clock" which has gradual warm light wake up function in additional to alarm sound. (I have no association with the developer)
My personal experience with the app is that sometimes the light gently woke me up before the alarm; sometimes I was already awake before the alarm; and occasionally I was too tired that even the sound alarm took a while before waking me up.
I've used the HF3500 for several months, and it worked well. My brother wanted it so I gave it to him. Then I got the HF3500/60 with the red hue feature, and it works just as well with a bit more functionality and settings for flexibility.
In my opinion, both served the purpose of waking me up equally well. The red hue is a preference thing (marketing gimmick), but if money is the concern, then it's really not worth it. Between the transition of owning the two wake-up lights, I think I just remember the difference on the first day.
I would recommend pulling the trigger.
It was pretty significant at first. That being said, wifey claimed that side of the bed as hers and now that I am further away from it there's no effect from the light that I find.
Sounds are nice, the light is nice. Radio is perfectly acceptable. Bluetooth functionality is a big thing that's missing but overall it's a nice product. Especially for the winter.
Love this light
Other being a regular clock it was useless.. Happy I only paid $40 for a no radio version.
Still debating whether to return mine that I got from the previous sale. So much money for basically just a light with software-limited feature sets between the various models. I bought a Sony ICF-CS10BT for $35 from $80 regular and even at regular price, is a better value then the Philips. Great sound/speakers, Bluetooth, hands-free, dual alarm, USB charger...Just a great piece of hardware. If only it had a light, lol
