Even in the natural world after the sun goes down it takes your body an hour or two to switch into "night mode" which means this time of the year your body should be working in "night mode" for a good 12 hours. In today's world most people have light on until the moment they go to bed, so even if you sleep for 8 hours in total darkness your body would only get 6 hours worth of "night mode." And most people sleep less than 8 hours and have their circadian rhythm interrupted even more by artificial light. In today's world some people working the night shift may never truly enter "night mode" and its been shown that people working night shifts have a much higher rate of cancer than the general population.
If you want to use a night light for you or your children you should use red light as that seems to have no effect while blue light is the worst. If you know somebody fightting cancer have them spend as much continuous time in darkness as possible. Turn off all artificial light at dusk and read by candlelight.
For more info I highly recommend the Nature of Things episode titled "lights out!" I truly believe when this theory becomes more main stream its going to change the world.

Also love the "sleep feature" I use it mostly when I'm heading out the door. so I don't have to walk in the dark. lol not even the same shades of light.
Also I use it as a lamp. mine has 300 lum
$60 would be for a "snooze button" (vs. a tap to snooze function on the 3505), one extra sound alarm (3 vs. 2), simulated sunset and 30% higher intensity wakeup light (300 vs. 200 lux).
Yup, no radio and no natural sound alarm either.
I do sleep much better with this thing than anything I used before though. Would buy again.
I have the one in this thread and love the bird sounds to wake up to, worth the extra money.
Only problem is the goddang snooze function is so hard to figure out
