Amazon.ca: Britax Marathon Car Seat $199.99 + Free Shipping

Britax Marathon Car Seat $199.99 + Free Shipping
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

The RedFlagDeals.com forums are buzzing about the great deal on the Britax Marathon 65 Car Seat at Amazon.ca. It's currently $199.99 which is $100 off list price. It's a very well-rated and well-reviewed car seat that works both rear- and forward-facing and accommodates passengers from 5 pounds all the way up to 65 pounds. With that weight range you could easily get four or five years of use out of it.

The Britax seats are considered by many to be the very safest car seat brand. You can read a Consumer Reports review here or some parent reviews on Toysrus.ca.

The seat is available in three colours one colour -- the others have sold out -- and comes with free shipping.

    • Great deal! This is an awesome car seat. We have 2 britax (this one and the boulevard) and our son loves them both. Now he's in a Diono Radian and I found the install of the britax to be easier.

    • We bought our daughter a Marathon as well. It feels like a pretty solid car seat -- sturdy and heavy.

We also bought her a Scenera, which sometimes goes for $70.

I guess the Marathon is better for rear facing, but for front-facing I don't think she really cared which car seat she used. They both looked effective and comfortable to me. When she was able to talk she said she liked the Scenera better.

The Marathon is rated to 65 lbs and the Scenera to 40 lbs, but at 40lbs they can use booster seats.

    • Ordered 1, thanks!

We got the same one 6 months ago for $209 + 13%tax on sale from Toys'R'Us....but this is even better since it's $199+gst only = $209 tax included.

    • I heard there are expiry dates associated to car seats? Does this apply to this Britax one?

    • Great car seat, we have two Britax's, and this model is my favourite.

All car seats have expiry dates regardless of brand.

    • Does anyone know if this is a "big" car seat? Does it take up a lot of room?

We have a Dodge Caliber and our son is currently in a maxi cosi mico, for which the passengers seat has to be all the way up (so impossible for anyone to sit there)

    • I'd also like to know if anyone can compare the size of this seat to the Boulevard?

This model is probably being phased out in favour of the new Marathon 65 "G3" which has a newer buckle that doesn't get stuck under the kid when they climb into the seat themselves.

    • Sorry, I'm new to the car seat world. So is this not an infant car seat that you can remove and place on a stroller? It looks like newborns can still fit in this, but why would you purchase this seat over one that can be removed and placed on a stroller?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The ones that have a base and can be removed as a carrier are only good until the baby is too heavy to carry around easily. We've found that once our kids have got to 4 or 5 months old, they're too big to carry around all the time. You will need a proper seat, eventually.

    • Can anyone comment on the expiry on these seats from amazon?
I don't want to get one from there, if they're on sale because they'll expire in 1-2 years vs 5-6 years if new.

From my understanding they are pretty wide... and these seats don't fold or anything for moving them around. The Diono Radian RXT advertises that you can fit 3 of them across in a car and are supposed to be one of the "narrower" designs of seats.

You never really know when ordering online what you're going to get in terms of expiry...

This one is for your baby/toddler when they out grow the carrier car seat. It does rear and front facing. rear when the child is too young/small to be front facing, but too big for the carrier. You switch them to front facing once they turn 18 months or XX lbs... this carseat should last you until they are 4-5 years old.

I bought this last time when they were on sale at $209. this is a great price. Only if you need it with in the next 4-6 months. I think they go on sale every so often. Don't buy it too early because they do expire.

Do you have two cars? Buy one of each and you'll quickly learn for yourself! Each has to meet certain safety standards, so they'd both be safe. But would you want your child in a seat that meets the safety standard, or one that exceeds it?

I have 2 cars - our main car has 2 Britax Frontiers and our secondary car has a Britax Marathon and a cheapie (we got it for free). I can install the Marathon in 5 minutes and feel reassured that it is in place firmly and correctly. It took me at least 20 minutes to install the cheapie to the point that it looked right, but it still felt loose. The cheapie looks cheap with little padding (comfort factor) and not as sturdy; in fact it's quite light weight. The Marathon looks and feels very well built, is much heavier and padded well too.

I'd rather buy a Britax at full retail than a cheapie (pretty much anything from the Dorel Group) on sale. My peace of mind and the safety of my children is priceless.

I have one installed in a compact sedan (2003 Saturn Ion) and I can sit in the front passenger seat (I'm 6'0") with my soon to be 5 year old daughter (also tall) or 3.5 year old son (taller than his 6 month older cousin) in it.

I see Amazon.ca also has the Diono RadianR120 on sale. $259.71 looks to be a good price for their most recent models. http://www.amazon.ca/Diono-RadianR12...4523763&sr=8-1 I think I will try it out because of the overall size difference - my RDX is ridiculously small in the back seat and the lower chair will help with front passenger leg room, I'm sure.

And for those questioning if the higher prices are warranted - the anti-tangle straps on the Britax are worth $100+ when its -30 out and you're trying to wrestle your 2 year old into the back seat of a car that hasn't warmed up yet. I have many friends that have started off with Eddie Bauer seats (or whatever else is the "cheaper" Toys r Us special of the week) and ditched them for Britax at some later point.

    • Currently own two Britax Cars seats and a Booster and my kids love them.

      1. You get better quality, better comfort and better safety (Side impact protection etc.)
      2. Britax seats are tested at Highway speeds, other seats are only tested at city speeds.

There is no comparison between a $70 seat and a Britax. Talk to other parents that own them and you'll quickly see why Britax is superior. I would also recommend reading the reviews on Amazon.com which speaks for themselves.

Personal preference, an infant car seat is probably safer but the baby will quickly outgrow it (~6 months?). A convertible car seat will last longer and will be comfortable for a larger baby, infant, etc up until 65lbs.

We have both (infant carrier and a convertible car seat).

The Britax Marathon is a great seat.

Quality of the padding, adjustibility without dismantling (i.e. changing strap configuration), ease of installation.

There are some great budget car seats (i.e. First Years Truefit), but the Marathon is one of the best. You'll be surprised at how sturdy it can be installed due to the design of the base and the steel bars. Highly recommended.
