View all95% of garage ceiling are at least 1 foot higher than the top of the garage door.
In my previous house the ceiling was too low to allow clearance for the motor and rails to be installed properly.
In that situation I required a different type of opener. Which the motor mounted on the side instead of the ceiling.
Anyways.... I was wondering how many days I have for the return policy.
I know costco has a 90days RP for electronics. Will this opener fall in the same category?
My closing date of my new house is in October.
If it doesn't fit or work...will I be able to return it?
So, had to pay and install it twice but good thing HD took it back with too. Second one seems to work but just beware that the quality is not what it used to be.
I agree it is useless on it's own and honestly I am not sure why anyone would do that. It works a lot better if you integrate it with SmartThings or Wink. You can then trigger other home actions to happen when the door opens or closes. For example I have my indoor basement lights turn on for 15 minutes when the garage door opens and it is after 7PM. This way I am not fumbling in the dark when I come in from the garage with two handfulls of groceries. You can also do things like have the door automatically open when your phone gets in range of your wifi. Or, send you an alert if the door is open for too long *AND* your smartphone is not in the house. Or give someone else a token to open your garage without giving them your MyQ account info. It's awesome.
The other thing I will point out is many modern Liftmaster or Chaimberlain openers already are "MyQ Enabled". If your opener is less than 2-3 years old it's probably already built in. You just need the $50 gatweay, you don't need to buy this package. Look for the logo on the side of it.
I bought the myQ universal garage opener which work with my opener, the set up is straight forward, but the app is awful. Awful in a way that it only does one thing, open/ close garage door. I think they tried very hard to include some alert function, but did it poorly.
After a week or so, my phone start getting false alarm on door opening and close. therefore, I returned it.... it just doesn't work that well. I would stay away.
Chamberlain sent out an email 15 hours after the breach to explain that they were doing "system testing" and that personal information was secure. The whole incident was just very poorly handled and the communications from chamberlain were severely lacking.
Other times the myQ link occasionally disconnects and you're not able to open or close your garage door through the app. A major annoyance.
All in all I'd give the Internet link a 5/10 for reliability. Home automation is getting there but it's not there yet.

Which in 2013 was selling for $269, it is now listed as HOT BUY for $249 but it doesn't have as many accessories as the one I posted but at the same price.
As stated in the product description: "The Chamberlain MyQ Internet Gateway (Costco item # 429964) is not included. The MyQ Internet Gateway must be purchased separately."
But a decent deal.
