Are the high-end knives on sale?

      http://www.kitchenstuffplus.com/promotions/120424/

E.g., would the deals be better than the 7pc 5-star set being advertised for $249 at Kitchen Stuff Plus this week? (Is $249 even a good price for that knife set?)

When I was there two years ago they have the 5-Star knives part of it...kinda depends each year what they put out. Generally it is stuff that didn't sell well in the retail channel that year which is why they have overstock of it. Most of the selection was the entry level stuff though.

With all that said I left spending about $200 on cutlery and knives so IMO it is worth attending.

    • A good find at this sale are the Henckels 'clad' products.

Very solid, well made pots and sauce pans that are very well priced at the sale. I picked up a 3 quart sauce pan last year for like 40 dollars and it's comparable to AllClad stuff IMHO.

Can be bad. I've been on Friday morning, and the wait is about an hour, if you're there before 9. People get testy if you save spots for friends ... In the middle of the day Saturdays & Sundays, it could be at least 2 hours. Haven't tried at the end of days before.

you have to use the advanced settings when you edit your original post... then it lets you alter the title

thanks for the post by the way, definitely putting this in my calendar

I took a day off the check it out...it was a 2 hrs wait prior to opening. (this is a weekday) Its pretty nutty. I went back on the weekend around 2 pm. Still as long line up wise.....

    • Man, sales must be darn good for people to wait outside on a weekday.

Either that or nothing else better to do.

    • When I went last year (whenever the last sale was), I went on the Friday afternoon after work and walked right in - no line-ups. Saturdays and Sundays are a different story, though. I wouldn't have bothered to go if I had to wait in line.

I wouldn't recommend anyone buy a Knife set. You usually end up paying for a crappy block, and a couple knives that will stay in the drawer.

I'd personally (and have), spend that 250$ on a high quality Chef's Knife or Santoku and my personal favorite a MAC ceramic steel.
That will probably close to eat up your 250$ budget, after that pick up a good paring knife.
Once you have those two basics, pick yourself up at leisure a bread knife. Keep a crappy Chef's knife on hand for wives/girlfriends/friends/significant others to use and keep your knifes to yourself (so they stay sharp).

You'll end up owning the knifes forever, and probably pass them down a generation. Might as well just spend a little bit more now, buy good stuff and be done with it.

Since it's a Henckels sale, I'd try to find a Miyabi since Henckels bought them.

Just wanted to add, I've never ever heard anyone complain of a knife being too sharp, but sure as heck have heard people complain when it's too dull! May seem like a lot of cash for one piece of metal, but you'll never regret it.

    • Not too familiar with prices but will be looking to purchase fairly good quality pieces (in the near future). Can anyone give me an indication of prices compare to the regular retail prices?

Moving soon so I’m basically starting from scratch, worth the trip (and line up?)?

    • the bay is having 'buy one get one free' henckels twin pure series.

      looking at a 8" chefs knife + 7" santoku

for both, it would be $209+tax at the bay sales. is this a better deal?

is the pure series good enough!?

      please advise.
